I always love the chance to escape somewhere for a weekend – everyone in buy family (mostly ME) know how much fun holiday Beth is. She relaxes, she sleeps in, she doesn’t make the bed, she leaves clothes all over the floor and she loves to cook and read. The chance for holiday Beth to come out is most welcome and this year (not been seen a lot) so I took it for escape for the weekend for my birthday.
I had seen BASK at Loves Bay in Kiama (just an hour from our place) through a friend who stayed there for her husband’s 40th and knew we had to get there at some stage so I was thrilled that it was free when I checked availability (is it just me or is anywhere booked up the wazoo at the mo) and quickly snapped up 3 nights for us and Lucy’s family for the weekend. Those rolling hills! The sea! Superior interiors…I was IN.
The house has two pavilions that are connected: the main one that you walk into with the kitchen, dining to the left, main bathroom and down into a sunken lounge room and sitting room and verandah off that. The main bedroom is also up a spiral staircase (this has a gorgeous Juliet balcony off that with the most sensational views).
Then to the right of the kitchen it travels up into a second lounge room with TV and then up to 3 other bedrooms (one queen) one with bunk beds and one with two singles and a smaller bathroom. Again another spiral staircase with tight, hight stairs reaches the top two bedrooms. Such a great house – would love to be back and stay again – you get lost in those views and the fabulous coastal walk runs all the way along the front of the house to Werri beach (a 6km walk I think) through rolling green hills that make you feel like you are overseas for sure. If you can get here, do.
The weekend was also a belated ADD TO CART Christmas party (the last two years we have had to cancel our celebrations due to sick kids and then bushfire evacuations) so it was a chance for us all to celebrate our success and hard work – helps that you work with your best friends as colleagues that mean you can travel together!
Friday afternoon we arrived with happy kids, Rob a little later with Daisy and Lucy and her family after that. I had organised a grazing platter from Dandelion and Mallow so that we could just relax straight away (I am getting better at outsourcing at the moment), the Prosecco was icy cold and the afternoon a dream to settle in.
Saturday poor Rob had to take Harper back home for Saturday hockey so it was the rest of us going for walks, reading, relaxing before a lovely long afternoon of drinks on the verandah, the ever changing light and views and a delicious dinner and cards. Perfect holidays stuff.
Sunday I got to wake up and enjoy my 43rd birthday here – what a treat! A wonderful slow day filled with amazing food and many very good wines and champagnes, a walk with my family over rambling hills and superior winter light…all my favourite things rolled into one day. How lucky am I?!
It was the VERY best weekend – truly I feel so lucky that we got the chance to do this right now in the current covid climate and I am also glad we found then chance to do it. There’s one thing I have learnt over the past 12 months is that you have got to make memories when you can: big or small, celebrate and do the things that make your heart sing and make you happy. Remind the people that matter the most what they mean to you, and for me I felt very loved and appreciated all weekend. How good is that?
