Monday Meal Ideas: School holiday baking

It’s time to dig deep my friends, coming into week 5? or is it 6 of the holidays or unless you are in QLD and you have a little spring in your step as you watch your kids head back to school today or tomorrow.

Right here it’s hot (going to be 36 plus again today), the girls have been fighting like cats and I have had some kind of pressing urge to clean and sort ALL OF THE THINGS that results in a sweaty neck every time. It’s not pretty.

So what better to do when hot frazzled than bake! Wait, what? Maybe that’s not such a great idea.

But! It could keep bigger kids entertained and at least the end result is food that can be eaten when you are told that they are hungry for the 78th time that morning. Here’s some of my favourite recipes.

LEMONADE SCONES
Apple & Caramel Hand Pies
WILD APPLE CARAMEL CRUMBLE
BANANA BREAD
DATE LOAF
CHOCOLATE CAKE
CHOCOLATE PUDDINGS
PIKELETS
LEMON DELICIOUS PUDDING
LEMON SOUR CAKE
Date Scones
Ginger Fluff

or how about these lemons seeing as how I have so many?

LEMON MERINGUE PIE
LEMON SYRUP CAKE
LEMON DELICIOUS PUDDING
LEMON CURD
SOUR LEMON CAKE

And also very good!

CHEAT ARROWROOT COOKIES
NO FAIL PAVLOVA
HOT CINNAMON DONUT CAKE
LEMONADE SCONES

Some biscuits!

JAM DROPS
HOME MADE CRISPBREAD
MONTE CARLOS
CHEAT MILK ARROWROOT COOKIES

Hope that you can stay cool (figuratively and physically) and that you can enjoy the last of the school holidays. Before too long it will be back to routine and mundane and order and notes and homework fights and while that even looks appealing this deep into the holidays, soak up the last of the sleep ins and late nights.

Have a good one friends x

  1. Hi Beth – I have made the Hot Cinnamon Donut cake many a time to rapturous applause ! Its a winner in my book. Mine has been off school since December 1st (Year 10 finished early) bring on January 31st. There is only so much Dance Moms I can listen too (insert eye roll here)
