My holidaying house guest Ms Styling You is quite the organised person. Having read her blog or known how she always crosses her t’s and dots her i’s I should not have been surprised that as soon as she realised that the house we are in has an Nespresso machine, but no pods, that the postie would deliver a box of pods yesterday afternoon after a quick online order. Or that she had the beach tent we have been enjoying sent directly here as she had ordered it too late before she left Brisbane.
So I was not at all concerned that she wanted to top up the shopping with an online order and delivery and let her tap away on her laptop on the deck. She was at the beach with the kids when the delivery arrived and I unpacked it. All looking good, except for an over order of baby spinach. Quite a LOT of baby spinach.
Nothing I couldn’t take care of for breakfast! I whipped up an accompaniment for our bacon and eggs and made sure nothing went to waste.
Cherry tomato & baby spinach sauté
3 bags baby spinach (you don’t need that much…just one will do!)
1 punnet cherry tomatoes (halved)
2 cloves garlic (crushed)
1 red onion (finely diced)
1 red chilli (finely sliced with seeds removed)
1. Finely dice the red onion & chilli and crush the garlic, fry off in a pan with extra virgin olive oil and a little salt and pepper. Throw in the tomatoes and cook down for 5 mins or so
2. Add in the washed spinach and stir through
3. Serve as a side with dinner (I sometimes top on steak) but for breakfast add crispy bacon onto toast, some good eggs and the spinach and tomato on top.
Delicious! And a good burst of spinach power first thing in the morning…POW Popeye!
Here are some other ways to use of excess baby spinach:
Salmon one pot wonder
Oven baked chorizo risotto
Baked veggies
Sausage pasta
Tomato & vegetable risoni soup
Moroccan lamb wraps
Gozleme
Vegetarian lasagne
What’s been your worst online supermarket order over order?
10 bags of marshmallows?
4 kgs of apples instead of 4 apples?
5kg of bacon. Hubby was overjoyed
That’s something I could deal with!
You’d be the perfect person to holiday with! YUMMO.
Oh thank you! Much more fun when I’m drinking the cocktails x
one banana instead of one kilo = barney looked so lonely in the fruit bowl
Ha! One sad, lonely banana 🙂
holidays with beth and nikki!
they love to cook … and clean windows! on holidays! what!!! etc. etc. etc.!
have fun! love m:)X
I am CRACKERS.
Yum! Super hungry now 🙂
Worth whipping up!
2kgs of green beans was delivered instead of 200g – I don’t even like beans!
Yes, I think I would struggle with that one too.
my mum once got 144 rolls of toilet paper instead of 12.
That year she made her Christmas tree out of toilet paper rolls
Ha! At least you know it will be used…eventually!
Oh my goodness, that looks so good! Adding that to the weekend brekkie mix.
I ordered us a 5.5kg leg of ham at Christmas which didn’t even get touched on Christmas Day (thanks to an uber organised mother in law). Luckily it hasn’t gone to waste, as we’ve had 4 house guests staying with us for the past 2 weeks. Ham for everyone! x
I ALMOST miss the Christmas ham glut that we feasted on. I haven’t touched any since!
Yum!
It was pretty good!
I once bought so much minced beef, I think I had the whole cow. Luckily it freezes well!
I have known friends who have ordered 6 carrots but ended up with 6kg!
You have to have your wits about you!
I LOVE baby spinach. I was just dreaming up a way to use mine, literally seconds before I saw your blog post!
There you go!
So much uses for spinach xx
It’s hardly an effort to use it up is it?
That looks so easy to do and delicious.
It sure is…perfect with steak too I reckon.
That looks so delicious Beth! You and Nikki make quite the holidaying team!!
I’ve over ordered chicken before (hooray for our second freezer!) and under ordered bananas. So disappointing.
I did order a watermelon for Christmas with my online food shop thinking it would be a small/medium sized one. It was huge!! Bigger than a basketball. We ate watermelon for days! Never a bad thing.
Except if you don’t like watermelon…like me!
I wish I liked spinach more! I went to a french bistro the other day and ordered a cheese galette, not realising it came with a tonne of spinach! Not good.
For people like me, the best way to eat it is in a curry or with cheese in a pastie
Here a couple of my faves

Enjoying reading about summer holidays in our cold german winter 🙂
Thanks so much for the links!
I once ordered a massive 5kg tub of feta instead of 500g. I guess that wasn’t such a bad thing after all, somehow we managed to use it up ;P
I could do that!
My friend ended up with 3 cases of tonic water instead of 3 bottles. And Woolies packed each bottle in a seperate bag! In that same order she got 6 kilos of bananas. Cocktails and smoothies for everyone!
Sounds good to me!
I have made a few over orders, I always tend to be rushing to get in by 12am the day of delivery! My worst yet, is 27 bottles of the lemon squirty juice… luckily they thought it was slightly odd and phoned me to double check I needed/didn’t need that many! Whoops!
That would have been a LOT of juice to deal with!
We have n oversupply of cucumbers! Fresh from the garden they are great except we have 15 in the fridge at the moment. New years eve I wasn’t out partying I was bottling cucumber relish, the second lot this season. My sister has an oversupply of zucchinis
You must make my pickled cucumbers…you can use up kilos without too much effort.
Green applies. I thought I ordered four. Received four bags of green apples!
My sister did that just a few weeks ago.
Yum!
11 punnets of mushrooms, when my husband meant to order 11 mushrooms 🙂
That’s a LOT of mushies!
