Can’t sleep, will blog

I woke up about 2 hours ago from the sound of a siren, or something and it felt like Christmas morning. New York. We’re in New York! I tossed and turned, I jealously watched Rob sleeping soundly next to me, I knew I shouldn’t grab my phone but I did and 2 hours later, I have given up.

It looks like this, right now.

I mean really, how can I be expected to sleep when THIS is just right there?

It’s misty and dark still here, about 4 degrees outside and it’s been drizzly all night with more rain expected today. But out there there’s cabs tooting, cars and people and lights from diners sparkling on the wet footpaths. There is NOTHING like this place. Nothing.

Our flight over was long, but great. We both managed to get some sleep and given that we usually don’t get that much sleep at home, well, we’re doing OK. I think we worked out from the time we left home, until the time we got to the hotel was about 30 hours. Australia is a really long way away from the rest of the world.

Our hotel is bloody fabulous and even better than what we were expecting. We’re staying at The Ludlow which is on the lower east side. Rob arranged for some champers to be there when we arrived and we both just sat there looking at each other thinking HOW CAN WE EVEN BE HERE WE LIVE IN BURRAWANG.

We went for a bit of a walk around last night in the cold and wet, then had a drink in the bar downstairs. Oh the people watching! SUPERIOR.

Here’s my Instagram story from the past 24 hours or so…

So here we are, safe and sound, amazed again at the wonder of travel. How you can hop on a plane, hurtle through the sky and suddenly end up on the other side of the world where people are doing their thing, living their lives.

I can’t wait to get to enjoy this magnificent city and all she has to offer.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I might try and get some sleep, or at least sit and watch the lower east side wake up to a dreary Monday morning.

  2. Enjoy! Have the best time. I LOVE NYC so much. We were there for Xmas last year. It was my second visit and I plan on going again and again. What a treat. I too am a small town country living gal and a bit of a hermit actually, but did I tell you how much I LOVE New York. Sigh, I’m a bit jelly, but in a nice way. 🙂

  8. Yay!
My parents are actually here at the moment…which is fab…but it means that I won’t get to NYC this year…and they didn’t bring any pizza with them.

  9. How wonderful. It is amazing that you get to such a city in a relatively short time. I love NYC. My son lives there. I would recommend One/Freedom tower ( I don’t know what they have decided on, it was just opened in 2015 when we were there), it was quite spectacular.
