Stop. Over.

The first flight out of Sydney didn’t seem like such a good idea when we woke at 2.45am but in hindsight I think it was a great way to rip the bandaid off and throw ourselves into our trip and new time zones. I’ll be sure to do a post on the flight and  what to pack what you’ll need on a plane with bigger kids but I have to say – they were brilliant. It’s amazing what an entertainment system with every movie they could ever have wanted to see all in one place. There was only “are we there yet” and that was 19 minutes out from Dubai which was what I call: A GOOD RESULT.

We literally skipped out of the plane into the hot afternoon and straight to our hotel a quick 5 minute drive away. We headed straight for the pool where the girls swam for hours while I managed to catch up with my mate Corinne  (apologies Corinne for my less than sparkling personality!), sink a few G&T’s and food before trotting back upstairs to a bath (with water that came out of the CEILING) and bed. That shower, that bed, was up there with a post labour shower of goodness…nothing better after a day of travel is there?

This morning we woke up 10 hours later, ready to tackle the next leg and head to London. It’s been 8 years since I’ve been and I am just about bursting out of my skin this morning with excitement. Daise woke and opened the blinds this morning and her joy and wonderment was about the same. It’s SO nice to be able to share these things with kids that are older.

Now, if you’ll excuse me I have a 4 year old I need to jump on the bed with before we leave.

Love the shots of Dubai, I can feel the heat ! Nice!
You must let us now if the stopover in Dubai improves the jet lag once you are in London. I would stop anywhere so I didn’t feel so bad after that long haul to the UK.
    Keep enjoying….

  4. We had a trip like this with our girls at Christmas. It was THE best o/s trip ever – although every different from all the previous ones…… Have a wonderful time, Beth and thanks for sharing xo

  5. Dubai is an incredible place. We spent 3 days there on our way back from our European honeymoon. I wish we’d spent a week there! Best of luck for the next leg of your journey.

  7. I thought you guys were holding up remarkably well, especially with the added exhaustion factor of the heat!

  9. I can feel the excitement all the way from here! After the flight to Dubai, the London leg will seem quicker than a hop, skip and a jump. Have fun in my old home town! I can’t wait to hear the next installment of your adventure!

  10. Oh yay!!! you made it and it looks awesome. Have a fabulous time!!!

  11. Nothing like the sweet anticipation of travel! Hope the last leg was just as successful x

  12. Do you think it was easier breaking up the trip with a one night stop in Dubai? I love Dubai, but wondered if it would be more hassle stopping than the benefit – collecting/rechecking bags, more queues, travel to and from airport, etc. But does the sleeping in a bed, kids working off energy, escape from the confines of a plane make it worthwhile?

    • I think the sleep in the bed for 10 hours made it ALL worthwhile. It meant that we have been able to do things at the other end straight away and get on the right time sooner. Sure there have still been meltdowns…but that happens in everyday life anyway! They also loved a swim after coming from the depths of winter.

  13. We have one night in Dubai with three kids. Would love to know if you recommend where you stayed?

    Thanks
