A slow Sunday at Hill View Sculpture

Over the weekend we had some visitors down for the night who have recently moved back from London after many years living over there. We were chatting on Saturday night when we were asked how we scratch our cultural itch living down here in the Highlands which we were able to show them yesterday when we finally got to the Hill View Sculpture Biennial. This has been open for the past month (closed yesterday) and runs every 2 years in the Hill View Heritage Hotel in Sutton Forest.

I am ashamed to say that this was my first time to the event even though it’s been running since we lived here and I was BLOWN away with how fabulous it was. The location. The artwork. The pop up cafe. The scenery. We all had the MOST amazing time – especially the kids – and I was all smug like that we had this on our doorstep that most definitely hits the cultural mark.

Whilst this isn’t very helpful to anyone that wanted to come down and see it (as it’s now closed) I think that there may be some talk of this being opened with some permanent sculptures more often…I will investigate this and let you know. In the meantime, if you are in the area make sure you drop into the hotel and have a wander around the amazing grounds as there are some permanent sculptures here and of course in 2 years time be sure to make the trip to the Highlands to visit – it’s truly breathtaking.

We all had the best time!

What did you get up to on the weekend?
Anyone get to this event and love it as much as us?

  1. We’re so glad you got there with the family, Beth. It truly is a treasure of the Highlands and has finally put us on the cultural tourism map. It was put together by a hardworking passionate bunch of locals (and friends from far and wide) who believe in creating a legacy to be proud of and it’s so lovely to hear how everyone who visited got such joy out of the experience. Hearing that it made people of all ages happy makes it all the more so worthwhile.

PS. The Hillview Sculpture Park will be open every weekend from now until the next exhibition 2020. Many gorgeous works by Ron Robertson-Swann OAM and Peter Lundberg will be on site along with new work soon to arrive. For more info get in touch with me and I’ll fill you in.

  2. It looks amazing, and even without the sculptures those trees are majestic! thanks so much for sharing (and please feel free to remind us in the future 🙂 )

  3. Some beautiful works there – what a great thing to mark into your 2020 calendar.

  4. We went and had a wander too, we had such a great time and our 4 year old absolutely loved it! Definitely a must see!!
