Winter is coming

I know it probably doesn’t feel like it where you are, but something is happening under the earth. The seasons are on the move. Time waits for no one, on it goes. And to be able to see it happen before me? PROPER seasons? Well, it’s a privilege that I don’t take for granted, not one bit.

Do you love Autumn?
It’s my favourite (and my best as Lola would say)!
Happy weekend friends…

  1. Beautiful colours. I love the change of season, and the chill in the air that Autumn brings. Melbourne is still so Summery. Maybe once daylight saving has finished it will start to feel more Autumnish here.

A few more weeks and we will be well and truly feeling it I think. We have a few nights of 8 or 9 degrees coming up….that will do the trick!

  2. I love the colours of autumn which you’ve beautifully captured

I Agree Autiumn is very pretty when the liquid amber leaves start turning and the Japanese maple it looks so pretty but it has not happened around these parts yet, soon hopefully I love the crisp cool nights and mornings too.

  5. I can’t wait for winter. I love sleeping under a doona and Mr Smaggle is made of fire so I’m looking forward to snuggly nights!

  6. Love, love Autumn! Living in QLD we don’t get the serious leave changes that happen in the southern states. That is why, every year I pack up my my reluctant husband and even more reluctant children and go on a road trip. Tracking the best autum foliage! I’m planning this trip now. Keep the photos coming Beth, they’re breathtaking…

Thanks Anita…sounds like me! I would pack everyone up and force upon them autumnal road trip goodness. I stopped everyone in the house the other afternoon to look at the beautiful light, and the way it was hitting the flowers! They all rolled their eyes at me…

Coincidentally I felt it today for the first time! It’s been hot here in Sydney, but riding my bike today there’s a different quality to the air… a slight crispness, and a change in the light. The sun is lower and the light a little softer…. I do like how autumn feels and looks, but for me it is the precursor to winter which is my least favourite season, so I guess it comes 3rd (behind spring and summer) on my personal season rating scale. Enjoy the changing colours Beth!

  8. Yes I love Autumn, I grew up in the UK, so have lots of happy childhood memories of walking through piles of scrunchy Autumn leaves or flinging them around. I love the smell and the colours, the absolutely amazing colours. I need to go to Bright, in Victoria, at this time of the year to get my fix of deciduous trees doing their thing. Haven’t made it there yet. One day.

  9. I think Autumn is quite romantic. The leaves changing all manner of beautiful colours, the cool nights that call for a fire and red wine and cuddles on the couch. Bring it on!

  10. I love Autumn here as it is nothing like the UK, it has warmth and colour but is still do able is the same clothes I would have worn for Summer in the UK 🙂

Alas here it is just all burnt trees from fires and blazing temperatures. SO looking forward to REAL Autumn kicking in

I used to live in the Blue Mountains and I loved autumn there. Its not so obvious here yet, we are still barefooting it or thongs, but I am aware its coming so I am on the look out for fallen trees and anything else I can put in my woodheater!

  13. We had our coolest night since October 2013 last night and warranted more than just a sheet at bedtime! Our days are still in the low 30’s, but the nights are finally getting cooler. Love Autumn and Winter. You can also judge the change in season by your beverage preferences – Champagne for Spring/Summer and last night I had a Shiraz, perfect for Autumn/Winter.

  14. These photos are INCREDIBLE Beth and yes, I do so love Autumn. I like the heat but I really welcome the cool change this time of year, especially after a few humid corkers (like the one we had yesterday in Sydney.)
