One thing: deep clean

There’s nothing like a deadline to get things done is there? I highly suggest creating one, even an imaginary one, that you work towards to make sure you get through your #onething list.

For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

Last year we had a couple of good deadlines: the baby coming in May which saw a flurry of activity (both nesting and otherwise) then we had a magazine shoot in August which also saw a whole heap of stuff getting done. This coming week we have Rob’s 40th party here on Saturday with 71 people descending for a sit down lunch so there have been LOTS OF THINGS to get done.

We’ve had a master list on the whiteboard in the kitchen that has been very satisfyingly marked off as each job gets done and each and every sleep Maggie has had, I have gone like the clappers, literally running around cleaning, pruning, weeding, mowing, mulching, DOING.

My most satisfying of all though?

I cleaned the outside of the house. As you do.

I de-cobwebbed. I scrubbed the walls. I got the Gerni high pressure washer out and I GERNI’D the SHIT out of the house. And the sandstone pavers. Heaven help me – such satisfaction!

And the results? SPARKLIMNG!

It’s actually like we have re-painted the house which is amazing…where does all that dirt come from in the middle of the fresh country air?! Daisy even said to me that “it looks like a new house Mum!”. And doesn’t it. Well overdue too with the house being about 10-12 years old now I’m not sure it’s ever been done before. And now we can not do it for another 5 or so years.

So good.

What was your one thing this week?
Anyone else love a bit of gerni action too?
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

  1. My one thing has been moving house! We did the movement part the last two weekends, but this weekend has been more unpacking, sorting, ditching, decluttering and cleaning! A huge job! Oh, and taking up my daughter’s hems on her winter school pants (week 2 – got there eventually!).

Our one thing was to finally move out of our tiny unit. Into another unit, but this one is 3 bedrooms, SPACIOUS living areas and the kitchen!!! Beth you should see my kitchen. My last was about the size of a motel kitchenette and now….. It’s amazing with a WALK IN PANTRY! I have also bought a dining table…. No more eating on the couch! Moving house is shit, exhausting, back breaking and you just haemorrage cash, but my god this was worth it. Oh and we’re in the city with all of those wonderful amenities – that I know you don’t miss – that I love 🙂

  3. The house looks a million dollars, Beth. My one thing is organising a moving company for our big move from Canberra to Sydney. I have recieved a lot of online quotes, but I’d like to have two Canberra-based companies come out to my house this week to asses all the stuff we have and tell me how much it will cost to move it all.

  5. Such satisfaction and what a Beautiful sky ?

  6. My one thing has been to sit down and eat dinner after a day of newborn/sick husband madness. Can confirm: dinner finally being eaten!

God I love a good pressure cleaner. Cannot WAIT to move out of our unit into a house with outdoor space that I can pressure clean. Apparently there are attachments you can use to clean your car….?! All my dreams have come true!

  7. I got a bucket and rag and washed the outside of my house near the front door today and it looks 90977 x better. So satisfying.
