Pretty maids all in a row

Apparently our little veggie garden is just like our children. Growing. Fast. Both girls have grown an inch over the past month. AN INCH. Do you remember growing? All those pains and sore knees and bones? Me too. I know Daisy is about to go through a big spurt…she doesn’t stop eating. And she is exhausted. Quite the business really isn’t it? This growing up?

My herbs and rocket, lettuces and carrots are coming along. What a joy it is to go grab something from the garden for your cooking. I mean I knew this was going on, but it’s SO good. DER BETH. Have you seen happier mint? I mean, really, HAVE YOU?

What’s growing at your place? Little people or flowers or food?

Bit of both. Littlest (just four) is blitzing the older two at present in the growing race. And cherry tomatoes are going gangbusters.

Still? And I say still like I actually mean what I’m talking about when in fact I have NO CLUE. None! Well done on your cherry toms!

My garden has cauliflower, spinach, silver beet, broccoli, onions, shallots and peas, oh and butternut pumpkin..cant wait to start picking and tasting it all..the chooks have their chooky eyes on it too!!!

  3. Little people are growing and I’m finding out that even a 5 year old Boy can eat more than me! Garden is looking great – lots of herbs and rhubarb!

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Daisy rolled 5 CUTLETS at dinner tonight. 5! I also got a huge bunch of rhubarb in my delivery this week…crumble on the cards I think and some poached for my porridge. YUM!!

      • Huge growth spurt happening there! I laugh when my son smashes 4 tacos loaded with meat and salad. We had rhubarb and pear crumble last week, apple and pear crumble this week πŸ™‚ Porridge with rhubarb and a bit of yoghurt and honey is great.

Ahhhh Miss 10 has gotta be about to grow. Starving all the time. Sleeping like a lunatic. Reckon life as we know it is about to change…….

13 month old eats more than the 2.75 year old; he might not be the big brother for long. The vegie garden needs clearing out and replanting. Looking forward to the long weekend.

I can’t imagine a June long weekend where you could ACTUALLY get stuff done! One day…

I remember when my girls had growing pains (and I do believe they exist), I used to rub my littlests legs with a body cream that I had from Avon. Anytime Brianna had sore legs in bed, she’d ask for the ‘Gold’ cream. A quick rub on the back of her calves and shins and off to lah lah land she went. Worth a try with Harps with a nice smelling body cream? Make it special, something she likes the smell of.

Good idea…thanks! We already get a spray of essential relaxing oils at night before sleep though…I’ve tried it all!

My goodness your garden looks as tidy as your house!
I’ve got some mint going brown and a few straggly cherry tomatoes.
But, I did start up a new herb garden yesterday and I am also going for a Mediterranean/mexican style garden because I have decided that is what will grow best on this bush block of clay soil that I live on.
And I have a 3 yr old, the size of an 18 month old but eating like a 5 yr old…he can’t talk but he can sign ‘eat’ and he is signing all the time.
It’s great your girls aren’t fussy eaters, enjoy their appetites!!

I’m growing kids & food right now. The 13yr old is a beanstalk. At Christmas he was as tall as me, now he’s about a forehead taller- mental! The 10yr old is busting out of his clothes & the 6 week old is looking like he’ll be out of 000 in a week or two- yikes!

Veg were planted 4 weeks ago. Spinach, rainbow chard, chilli, onions, silverbeet, Chinese greens, red & green cabbage are all growing well. Can’t wait to harvest!

A warning on the mint- it’s a runner! I planted some years ago & it doesn’t matter how many times I rip it out if there is a tiny little runner left behind it just takes over. It never dies even in the scorching Perth summers with no water. It is crazy!

  9. Isn’t it the best?! I get so spoiled all summer with fresh herbs and salad on demand that it’s hard to go back when the weather gives out.

  10. I love our meals that are from the garden to plate. So satisfying and so refreshing to know where it’s come from. Kids love it too.

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

No, not yet. We are HOPELESS. Life keeps getting in the way. And by life, I mean work and deadlines. Poor kids…

In the throws of my 2nd attempt at a vertical pallate garden at the mo. (The succulents in it got scorched over Jan leaning against the fence in the north facing sun) Woopsie!! So I have planted sage, chives, dill on the top and am going to get more succulents and plot some strawberries in soon for the mix. I have now put it next to the old cement trough at the back step tap where parsley, mint and thyme and rosemary are going very well. Some beans, peas, caulies, broccholi and sweet peas ( cant wait for these to flower) and beets and onions arein the patches. So much fun. Space for more..Cant wait for the next market to buy more. Little people growing here too..Thats another story..

  13. I kill all gardens. Very jealous of Beverly. X

  14. We have moved from an acre block to a seaside apartment and the one thing i really miss is my vege patch – the kids would eat cucumbers, beans and peas straight from the garden. I think I will have to get a small garden just for cucumbers. your garden looks tops.

  15. Oh I so forgot about growing pains. I use to get those as a kid! We did have food growing in the garden till the slugs ate the majority and the dog finished them off. So now all I am clinging to is my sweet peas that I will nurture till spring time can coax their beautiful flowers out. Otherwise, the kids grow too…the slugs have not got to them yet πŸ˜‰ love your blog. New fan πŸ™‚
