Sixty

Yesterday was my Mum’s 60th Birthday. 60. I remember being a little girl and seeing my own Grandparents turn 60 and then 70 and thinking that it was just so old. It’s so not old is it? My Mum was just a spring chicken when she had me {25} and I was even her third child! She raised 4 children into confident, smart, kind adults who are now doing the same to their own children. We had a little celebration at my sister’s place with a small group of her friends. We ate an amazing meal, we toasted a few glasses to her, we sat and chatted and laughed and all stopped to celebrate just what an amazing woman she is and what a special part she plays in all our lives.

It was such a lovely afternoon. My sister and brother in law did an amazing job…as only they know how to do.

I tried to take photos throughout the day but with it taking me approximately 10 times longer to take each shot working out my settings etc, I didn’t take as many as I would have liked. We left yesterday afternoon and even though we were in Sydney for just 24 hours it felt much longer. The girls were tired and cranky and I struggled to drive us all home with my eyes awake. Life seems so busy at the moment – with School and activities, things to do in the Village and the blog too – I much prefer being busy to bored but could do with some hanging out. Perhaps next weekend instead?

  3. The photos are stunning. Good job!!! My fave: the 3 champers bottles with the 2nd in focus….LOVE!

Looks like a brilliant celebration for your Mum. And yes, I hope you get to enjoy a quiet weekend next week?! We all need them every now & then.

  4. Ohhh Happy birthday to your mum! My mum turned 60 3 years ago and I remember thinking the same as you – I can remember when my nana was 60 and boy did it feel old. I was my mother’s 4th child – she had my big sister at 21! Blimey!

    Your photos look fab!

I’m not a great photographer but I do only shoot on manual when I use my DSLR and trust me, it will become like second nature. Just keep that camera on the bench and use it every spare second you’ve got. Also, sounds dumb?! – but reading the instruction manual, if you still have it, will teach you a lot about the manual settings as well.

  5. a gorgeous day all round. Our mums turn 60 at the same time ….we are taking my mum away in a few weeks to celebrate how special she is. What would we do without them hey?!! Xxxx

  6. Happy Birthday Sue!

Bev, these photos are SPECTACULAR! Well done lovely.

This weekend is Mother’s Day, I sure hope you have some downtime scheduled for Sunday.

    xx

  7. Happy Birthday to your wonderful Mum. xxx What a lovely way to spoil her, can I borrow your sister and brother in law for mine in a few years. Or come to think of it, can I borrow you – I love what you cook and your house, well I might just have to steal it from you – lol. Hugs from Perth xxx

  8. Lovely pics – you have a great eye and that’s something that can’t be taught. I recently bought a great book called ‘Understanding Exposure’ by Bryan Petersen. It was recommend by Carla Coulson – have you seen her books/photography? She’s an aussie living in Paris and shoots gorgeous images – funny that she has the same surname as Tim – wonder if they’re related? I got my copy on book depository for about $25 – found that even though I’d done courses I couldn’t get the whole f-stop/shutter speed business to stick in my head and become second nature – this book was really helpful. Looks like you had a great day at Tim’s workshop.

  9. Happy birthday Sue and great photos Beth! xx

  10. pfffft, as if you dont have that “eye”. Your photos have always been spectacular, now you just know the lingo.

    Sounds like a lovely day.

  11. Oh Happy Birthday to your lovely Mama… and no, 60 is definitely not old. I think 60 is the new 50 quite frankly.
Lovely pics too, you’ve got the flair lady, run with it! xo

  12. Beautiful photos! The first thing I thought was wow, she really is getting the manual thing! Taking a class in a few weeks myself and hope the results are as good ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy Birthday to your mom, love the post on riding in the car with Daisy too. Once my mom and I took a 3000 mile roadtrip without a working radio or heater, in a low-riding sports car on the potholed Alaskan highway – it was the best!! A memory I will hold in my heart forever.
