One Thing: Tick Tock

Yesterday morning I saw an opening in the morning so decided to conquer ALL of the things on my very long #onething list.

For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

Except it’s been like months since I actually got around to doing one. Actually, strike that, it’s not true. Last week I booked in to get my eyes tested and that was sitting on the list for some time. So it’s not all dire, no one panic. Anyway, back to yesterday and the SUPER morning of power that saw me getting ALL of the things done. Don’t you love it when you have some hours to use, a very long list and a toddler to drag along? Me too!

There were lots of little things to get done. I had to get the smashed iPad screen replaced. I had to take in that Fathers Day scratchie that had won $5, I had to get the filthy car washed, I had to go to Big W and get the kids some new school socks, underwear, all those annoying things that need to get done and lucky for me I could hit the one place and knock the lot off.

But the most annoying and most overdue of ALL the things on the list?

A new battery on my watch that I have been meaning to replace for what? 12 months? 18 months? Dead set, it’s been THAT long. A simple thing to do that has continued to bug me every single day for that long. Done! In what? 10 mins? Thank you Mr Minute or whatever you are called!

I have always been a watch wearer. I am quite fastidious about time, namely being on it whenever I can. I don’t get lateness, I am a planner of time to the hour in my day, like weather, time is a thing for me. And it annoyed me every day that I had to ask people what the time was, use the clock in the car or on my phone to check it and I am still baffled as to how or why it took me so long to get it fixed. Huh?

But now! I know the time. I have my cute watch back on that I bought in Florence and I am back to my orderly self again. And trying to work out what’s next on my list of annoying things to get done and exactly why we leave things for so long that really take no time at all?

What was your one thing this week?
What’s your most annoying little task that has been put off SO much? Do it! I bet you can!
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

  1. Oh gosh it’s so satisfying when you can tick those things off your #onething list! I got around to buying my very first Dyson cordless vacuum the other day. LIFE CHANGER. Today I made sure I stopped procrastinating about booking a hair appointment – usually I wait until it’s waaaaaay too late and then spend weeks feeling like crap, before having to confess to my ever patient stylist that I just didn’t get around to my hair maintenance again!
I think that my nesting period has finally kicked in and I am so bloody happy about it! I am not a natural domestic goddess! x

  2. We have an annoying little bug, the name of which I forget (but it is Not as bad as a termite) that eats wood–namely the ancient thick rafters in the upstairs of our cottage in France. We have been told by the locals that they cannot bring the house down, and not to worry. Just get some of a particular insecticide and squirt in every hole they make. You can locate the holes by looking straight up from the tiny piles of sawdust on the floor. Done and done last summer.

So now we see that having vacated the rafters, a new one appears to be munching on the underside of the dresser and chifferobe. This requires getting down on the floor and peering under the furniture. Getting down on the floor is not the problem–getting back up is.

Hope to get this one thing done before returning to the US for the winter. Fighting over who has to do it.

  3. that’s funny beth!
I need a new leather watchband … I will remedy that! online I think!
I don’t like being late either but i’m not exactly organized but in my own spurious way
I always know what time it is even without a watch!
mr m calls me mrs clock!
abstract thinking it all gets there or not!!!
    have a good one hun!
    love mxx

  4. Phew where do i begin??

Firstly i won Three months of Netflix MONTHS ago from YOU but haven’t had NBN connected yet so haven’t activated by win 🙁

Secondly – I have a frozen shoulder that has NEEDED and begged for treatment so earlier this week i made an appointment with my GP who referred me to a specialist/surgeon which by some miracle i got a same week appointment, was sent for an MRI and a hydra dilation appointment which i managed to get for the NEXT DAY – so yesterday THE VERY SAME DAY YOU SENT YOUR do something off your list email – i actually did something BIG, SCARY and PAINFUL off my list!!!!

Whilst i am not feeling good today – (pain levels at a 7 or 8 out of 10) and MANY MANY tears were shed at the poor MRI and Radiographer men (who were dead set HOT by the way!) its done and now recovery and physio are on the way !!!

Tomorrow is my precious daughters 11th birthday – she is having a sleep over party for 6 girls and instead of slamming my head into a wall i am going to order pizza, bring my curling iron and straightener, nail polish and popcorn for movies and the girls will have a lovely time and i won’t KILL myself trying going above and beyond….

Beth – i’m using you as a life guide/mentor – and i believe i am finally getting to the point of understanding i can’t do all and if i don’t look after me then my pyramid below me falls and fails…

and now i am all emotional typing this i shall get back to work !

    much love

    • Oh Leeanne – hope that things are a bit better now and recovery is going well. You/we/us definitely can’t do it all…but we can keep on plugging way, taking it easy on ourselves and try and have some fun along the way xxx
