One thing: Fans

I’ll tell you something for nothing, the reason there has not been a #onething since MAY is because, I have not done ANYTHING from my #onething list. You see, somehow, the last 6 months of the year have disappeared before my very eyes. Winter came and went, and now Spring, here and tomorrow gone as we head into Summer. How did it happen? Honestly. I’d like to know.

For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

Except not every week. Not even month. Sheesh. It’s been a while. But! That means that my #onething list is now MASSIVE so long. There’s piles of Maggie’s clothes that need sorting. Cupboards that need seeing to, podiatrists to see, high school enrolments to get in. SO MANY THINGS. Man being a grown up is boring sometimes.

But! In the past week I have actually done something. Well, I’ve done 6 million things, but I have done something from my list. Behold!

Ever since we moved in (6 years) I have been “meaning” to get around to getting ceiling fans for the bedrooms. While we have temps well below the rest of Sydney and surrounding areas, we still get hot still nights and I ask is there anything better than sleeping under a ceiling fan? It reminds me of summer holidays and holiday houses.

Last week I grabbed them on sale, this afternoon our electrician came over with his apprentice (man I love it when there are people doing stuff in our home that just GET STUFF DONE) and when I got back from the supermarket, there they were!

The girls are thrilled, I am happy that I can cross something off my list that has been there for, you know, 6 years.

So that’s something.

What was your one thing last week?
Anyone else love thee whirling of air over your head while you sleep in the summer?
How is it December tomorrow? HOW?!
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

Comments

  1. Haha! Getting ceiling fans has been on my list for 5 yrs and I bought the first of 4 last week lol. I figured buying them one at a time is easier to manage then I’ll get them installed all at once. Watch this space…

  2. I can’t believe you put this up… I just thought about you today. I was crossing things off & like you it’s been a while ….. feels bloody good getting stuff done. Happy Days 🙂

  3. How is it so that YOU ARE MY HUSBAND?! Honestly! He too is ceiling fan obsessed. I’m neither here nor there with them and completely overruled him on one in our room as I wanted a pretty light fitting (der!) but when we recently renovated the girl’s bedrooms he won our and we got ceiling fans (admittedly Eleanor’s room does get quite hot in summer…) So there. Fans done here too. Wait until I tell him about bloody Babymac’s fans…

  4. When we were building our home I suggested ceiling fans in the bedrooms. Hubby was concerned our kids would piff things at the fans in their rooms. I assured him they wouldn’t. And as we head into our third summer in our home, I can happily say it has been a joy to lie in bed on a hot summer’s night with the fan quietly whirring above me. And no toys piffed in the two years we’ve lived here!

  5. I was only thinking the other day I hadn’t see a “one thing” for a while. We moved into what will hopefully be our home for many years 5 weeks ago. My list is about 100 lines long. But today we did finally move the wardrobe I’d painted (badly) into our room.

So many curtains to hang, pictures to hand, boxes of Tupperware to put away, furniture to paint etc etc etc

And then there is an amazing established but overgrown garden (did I mention I’m not a green thumb?).

But we will get there and it will be worth it!

  6. Back up there a little bit girlfriend…. ‘high school enrolments to get in…’
    What?! No way?!

  7. I just did my one thing, cleaning the dust off the ceiling fans! Yucko. But better than the alternative which is forgetting to clean them them, turning them on and having dust rain over your clean bed sheets ?.
Nothing better than people who get stuff done! I’m envious of you getting sparky’s in – that’s defo on my one thing list!
    Well done to you!

  8. Last week I got the toy boxes sorted, the book and toy shelves cleaned and dusted and the little mans clothes that he has grown out of bagged and passed on to a friend. 4 bags of kiddy books and unused toys off to St Vincent’s (and I have actually dropped them off…..they are not just in the back of the car). I tell my kids that 4 toys need to be passed onto kids less fortunate before Santa delivers any new ones. I did this with my now grown up son and the little ones are keen to get involved…….can be a long task as they tend to start playing with them once they have found them again.

  9. Finally got the deck painted. Hubby bought the paint 12 months ago and being the lovely wife I am I got sick of waiting so hired a painter who has completed the lot. Looks awsome.
