An Autumn walk in the village

If you look out any of our windows at the moment you’ll see that Autumn has arrived. My favourite and my best, glorious Autumn with it’s magical light, shorter, warm days and cooler, dark nights.

Our village does Autumn particularly well and yesterday the girls and I took a walk up to the General Store for a milkshake, a play in the park and a scoot. It looked a picture, so thought it best to take a couple, for you too.

We walked up to the cafe past the cows, the odd blackberry and many a red leaf. I wonder why they are so red this year, lack of rain? Too much rain?

Then we saw that the library van was town – perfect timing! The girls got to have a look inside, borrow a few books each (including Mags) how good is that?!

Then a bit further down to the cafe for a milkshake and a sweet treat. Maggie and I had some freshly made cornflake biscuits JUST like my Grandma Dot used to make for us. I was in heaven!

Then we popped over to the school playground for a run around, dear lord Maggie has finally worked out there is a thing called a park where fun can be had (I’m screwed, I hate the freaking park).

Then the slow scoot/walk/pram stroll home peeking it at everyone’s gardens along the way…my favourite past time. And I didn’t steal one flower!

I mean seriously, how gorgeous is it looking? Almost 6 years on I still pinch myself that we get to call this place home. That our girls get this as their childhood, it’s a blessing that’s for sure. Our holidays are never filled with endless activities and things to do, places to go. We stay home, we hang out, we get bored and there are bribes of milkshakes and scooter rides and trips to the bloody park as incentive to get through them. They may not be exciting, but they are fine by our lot.

Happy weekend friends! We’re off tomorrow for a few nights away which I am SO excited about. Hope you have a great one x

  3. I love the highlands! If I didn’t live here (Canada) that is where I would want to live in Australia.

I’m with you re the Park – It’s the shits!!!

  4. Gorgeous pics! I’ve been wondering the same about leaf colour this year. Thinking it’s so much more intense around our place just north of Melb city. I thought it was just me ‘taking the time’ to notice… Don’t know, don’t care, it’s all beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Thanks for the great photos and story! I’m moving up that way in 2 weeks and am desperately hoping that the trees at our new home will save their leaves until at least a few weeks after we arrive. I love your blog – it will inspire me to make the most of my new life.

  6. I love your village so much. My parents had a holiday house nearby from when I was a baby and we used to go to your village’s general store when it still was a store, called Kirkby’s, and also to Scarlett’s for fruit and vegies where the real estate agent is now. I have fond memories of eating icecreams on the steps of Kirkby’s in summer. We still go to the butchers when we’re down there. They used to give all four of us kids a free Frankfurt each time we went. Such a lovely village.

  7. You really do live in a gorgeous part of the world!

Our holidays are much like yours, we hang out at home, with the odd trip out for fresh air and supplies.
    Enjoy your little break away!

  12. I love watching the trees change. We currently have our home on the market and I can’t believe that last Saturday the trees in our front yard were green and today most of the leaves cover our lawn.

  13. Theresa B says

Absolutely stunning images Beth and its great you appreciate it so much – makes me think about a tree change every time you share wonderful village stories and pics!

  14. Just beautiful! Are you sure you didn’t steal those pics from a story book!?

  15. Such gorgeous shots! I adore Autumn!

The other day at the park another mother put me to shame by playing these elaborate games not only with her kids, but mine too, I didn’t know her from a bar of soap. Who has the energy or the inclination (I wish I did, but I so don’t).

  16. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous story and photos, you live in an amazing part of the world.

  17. Stunning! And I love that it’s called a village!

  18. What beautiful pics! Just beautiful! x

  19. Oh Beth! How gorgeous. Simply stunning! Living in brisbane, we rarely get to experience change of seasons like this. I’m a little bit jealous!

  21. Seriously Beth….. I am drooling at every single one of those photos. Stunning!!!! You really do live in the cutest little village. Thanks for sharing the photos.

  22. Dear Beth, you really did land yourselves in paradise all those years ago. Is it really six? SIX!? Oh man, it feels like yesterday when you were moving in. I still remember the photos of you moving out of your inner-city pad and how daunting the whole move felt. And THIS. LOOK AT THIS. It would be fine by my lot too.

    Enjoy your trip away. x
