One thing: Replace the dead plant

This is Rob’s studio/office:

one thing

It’s separate to our house (so he can, you know, go to work although the 34 second commute can be a bastard sometimes). Up until Sunday last week that sculpture you see hanging on the wall was sitting up against the wall for, oh, you know, 2 and a bit years. Mrs Munro whipped them up as props for our ball a few years ago and there is sat, or leaned I should say, just waiting for someone to do something with it.

And then with the spirit of #onething behind him, Rob went and put it up on Sunday (without me even asking!). For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

When I saw that photo above on Instagram I was reminded of another thing. A dead plant thing you will see to the left of the photo, which was a healthy lemon tree in a pot given to us by my Dad years ago when we bought our first house (I think you can see it in an old post here) that never survived the move down here. So what’s that, almost 5 years of it being dead in a pot. Almost 5 years of Rob walking past the dead pot. How revolting.

But not anymore! I went to the nursery on Tuesday and I got a new lemon tree! And then I got another planter box, and some buxus and I planted them all, then fertilised them, then watered them, then naturally stepped back and took a photo of them!

No more dead plants. An entranceway that actually looks nice. Well, better in any case.

What was your one thing this week?
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

Comments

  1. Yesterday I finally pulled out the dead tomato plant from the pot next to the greenhouse and transplanted the limping chilli into it (which had been languishing in a shady corner since we moved in 4 months ago). Then I Seasolled it and all the other herbs and plants. Felt like Don Burke for a second there!

  2. I sorted through the clothes I pulled out of the wardrobe during the Christmas holidays & left in keep, throw, donate piles. They have been sitting in the bottom of the wardrobe ever since. And it turns out they all should’ve belonged on the throw pile. So that’s what I did.

  3. Looks fab! Makes you feel so good when you do something like that.

My one thing this week is to write a blog post, me thinks. It’s been too long.

  4. it’s all go at your place bev!

  5. Finally threw out the plastic buckets / spades / water play stuff that hubby put under the front stairs at the end of LAST summer which were in poor condition then so pretty much disintegrating now’

  6. I hemmed a pair of pants I bought months ago, they are for work and I just could not be bothered for ages but tonight I finally did it, and now feel good. New pants for work tomorrow!

  7. I made a new fitted sheet for my ridiculously large Dubai-bought super king bed. I now have two fitted sheets! Woo hoo!

  8. I love love love #onething. I haven’t done it but my big one thing to do this year is start researching secondary school. Going on a tour of a few schools we are thinking about. Been on my list for three years.

  9. Now apparently lemon trees like it if you pee on them…..so off you go Rob.

  10. My one thing was to get back into the habit of walking the dogs daily. I had an Australia Day incident with a Brown snake and have been too scared. Second day back walking today.

  11. Lisa Mckenzie says

I got rid of the clothes I had cleaned out of my wardrobe!

  12. I haven’t looked at my one thing list for a while. Best I retook at it and choose something. I’ve just been so busy of late. The entrance looks much better too by the way. Sounds like that nesting instinct is really kicking in. X

  13. I need to choose our wedding photos for the album. It’s only been 2 years!
