Nice things

There’s been plenty of times over the last few days where I have been reminded just how lucky we are to have found this place to be our home. The lovely community we live in filled with amazing people we get to call our friends. The beauty of the place. The fun times we constantly seem to have.

We had a 40th birthday party of one of our good mate’s on Saturday night up at the pub. What fun we had – spending it with such a great cross-section of interesting, funny, hard-working, GOOD, decent people. I looked around a few times and pinched myself that we get to call these people our friends.

And this afternoon I went to a friends place to help her set up a Facebook page for her photography business. Jules has the most legitimately BEAUTIFUL garden. She’s a great photographer and has started taking pictures to sell at markets. As a thank you {for not much help at all from me} I got good company, the most delicious goats cheese tart made with proper pastry, a delicious salad from the garden, a new hydrangea for my garden and a dozen guinea fowl eggs! All while the rain poured down outside. Perfect.

I feel very lucky to have found this place. These people. This village.

If you wanted to follow my friend Jules’ Facebook page you can find it here. She is the real deal. Has the real country garden. Can cook like it’s nobodies business. And happens to be a top chick too.

What’s something nice that’s happened to you over the past few days?
What am I going to make with all these guinea fowl eggs?

  1. Are they different to normal eggs? Jules’ tart looks amazeballs on her page!.. I would have to say the nicest thing in the last few days was an afternoon 3 hr kip on Saturday. B.L.I.S.S

Sigh. It’s good, yeah? I literally ACHE for such a community. Tis pretty isolated in these parts. I’ve been here almost 8 months and don’t know a soul. Funnily enough we seem to have found ‘the place’…but it’s right where we started. Also 700km from where we are now. Wrong turn made. We know it’s there, waiting for us, we just need to figure the bloody hell out how to make it happen… Hooowwwww??!! You’re a lucky duck Beth. (P.S. Would love to get some guinea fowl! I should shouldn’t I? Yes.)

My mumma makes her Sunday morning scrambled eggs with guinea fowl eggs because they’re super yolk-y and rich.

I love the nice stuff. For me the nice things have been having a husband who can talk me down when I feel like I’m spiraling out of control. Even though he’s at work hours & hours & hours away he’s still there for me. That’s really nice. It was also nice that in the weekend I forgot the housework, forgot getting organized for the week ahead, forgot the usual baking & done things just for fun. I got my sewing machine out for the first time in donkey’s years & whipped up a few things. That was nice too.
As for those eggs I’ve got no idea. Maybe see if Stephanie Alexander’s app has anything?

That sounds perfect…sometimes you just have to let all that stuff go and be…good stuff can come from that x

Thanks for all your help today Beth and the wonderful post! You are definitely one of the GOOD, funny, hardworking people in this village. I am still sooo full from that tart!! xxx

  8. Same for me. I feel amazingly lucky that I live in such a good community. Our lives are so full, wherever we go we know people and they are such good people too.
Something good that happened to me? Nothing amazing, but just being able to share time with friends who have become like family to me. So glad I have people I can share my life with, that’s something so nice.

  9. I love flowers in salad. I used to work at a school that does the Stephanie Alexander program and she always put zucchini flowers in the salads. Love it.

Omg that all looks so good Beth,I bought myself a Hydrangea yesterday as I love them but I am going to put it on the verandah in a pot so I can move it around from heat and the frost.I love your community pics they are lovely and what lovely people you live near x

  11. I want to live in your town! We’d get up to a whole lot of trouble…
Something nice that’s happened to me this past week is being able to help others – with Christmas gifts, blogging, styling and just being there for a friend whose relative is dying. It’s nice to know that just being you and just being there can mean so much to someone. x
