Bonkers in Honkers: Part 3

Well here we are back at the airport ready to catch the plane back home, we arrive tomorrow morning at 6.30am. It’s been such a great whirlwind of a trip…lots of walking, working, eating, drinking & exploring and the fact that I get to do all that with Rob by my side? Well that’ll do pig!

Late yesterday afternoon we headed down to the Wan Chai pier to catch the ferry across to Kowloon for sunset, a drink (ok, maybe 3 of those) and then to see the lights twinkle and sparkle as darkness came from across the bay. What a treat ALL of that was….for HK$5.40 (so about 80cents) for the two of us, it has to be the best value in the whole of Honkers. Perfection!

We then wandered over to The Peninsula Hotel to head up to Bar Felix for a drink and to watch the sunset. What a treat that place is! I felt like we had stepped back in time to the glory of Colonial times…there was High Tea happening at the restaurant, people from all corners of the world enjoying themselves. We headed up to Bar Felix (a restaurant designed by Philippe Starck) for an evening tipple where the people watching was even better than the drinks (and that is saying something).

As the lights twinkled on across the city we wandered back to the wharf to catch the ferry home, everyone sitting down waiting for the light show which we managed to catch as we took the boat across (again for 80 cents that’ll do).

We then had a quick bite to eat Tim Ho Wan to check out those famous pork buns (you know, just to be sure). For me they were a little sweet and biscuity but still DELICIOUS. Oh how I miss good Asian food back home!

This morning we got up late and did some shopping for the girls, before checking out of our hotel and heading to the airport where I am now enjoying a champers in the lounge (before our economy flight home don’t you worry about that). We stayed at Hotel Tuve which was good, but not great. Like any of these stylish places, they always lack a little soul and can be style over substance, but the value was why we chose here, so that ticked the box.

So Honkers, thank you for the good times. It was a joy to be able to mix business with pleasure. We have some really wonderful shots to share with you guys when the shoe comes out, and I can tell you that she performed well over the last few days over many, many kilometres.

Tomorrow it’s back to reality, and a super busy time to finish off the year. It’s been a truly remarkable few months for me personally and professionally with work with lots of wonderful opportunities and particularly with travel. I am SO pumped sometimes that the hard work pays off and the risks and challenges I set myself sometimes pay off. I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings…

We had drinks at Bar Felix at The Peninsula Hotel.
We had dinner at Tim Ho Wan.
We had lunch at Din Tai Fung.
We stayed at Tuve Hotel in Causeway Bay.

So tell me, where are you off to next?

  2. Where did you shop? Find any good places?

    • We were pressed for time so just hit a big mall that was near Times Square – like in the states the shopping back home and our ability to get anything we want online has changed the big deal that it used to be when people went shopping in Honkers in the 80s. We mostly were buying trinkets for the kids and nothing for us!

  3. Fantastic Beth, I am so happy for you success & happiness!!! Xx
