The best days

My goodness we are having fun. I mean, I’m sure it’s not all that interesting to you all, but I want to capture every moment, each morning or afternoon so when we are back home soon enough, making lunch and putting out fights between the girls, I can trawl back through these photos and remember it all.

I don’t want to forget the blasts of cold air as soon as you walk outside. The sounds that hit you as you walk down to the subway, whether it’s someone talking aggressively on their phone, some band busking, someone losing their shit. The dirty small streets of the lower east side, the bulbs all starting to pop in the pots along the sidewalks from midtown and into the upper east side, the sirens loudly blurting down any street.

So much noise. And life. Man, I love this city so much.

Last night we had the pleasure of enjoying a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. What an experience. We were up high (on the bridge I think it’s called?). It had a table/desk and kept me very entertained with beers as big as my head, the appearance of Jay Z and dancers with jazzy outfits that lit up, t shirt cannons and a band. God bless America.

This morning we were up and at it early as the sun was shining (apparently it’s going to get cold and wet again in the next few days) as we had breakfast at Chelsea market and then walked the High Line. What a delight.

The sun was shining, the crowds weren’t all that bad and we got to soak up this great NY experience. The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.

The track winds between apartment buildings, sky scrapers with ample opportunity to have a decent sticky beak into life in this city.

And then down the soaring avenues with school buses and bikes and people going about their businesses.

Rob and I took a moment in the sunshine where in that moment, life was really, really good.

Spring is starting to spring.

And then we walked uptown to check out the big lights.

And then onto the taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert who I have a MASSIVE intellectual crush on. God he is so funny and wonderful and I was so stoked that we managed to get tickets to watch the show being taped.

We lined up for hours and then we were walked into the studio as we all filed in. And then! YOU GUYS. There was a break in the line and we were SENT INTO THE FRONT ROW. I died, obviously. And then when the show started AND I GOT TO SHAKE STEPHEN’S HAND IN THE ACTUAL RESL LIFE THAT WE EXIST IN, I died.

Here’s the intro that I just taped off live TV. We are far left, front row.

Just the best afternoon EVER. Sheesh.

I know when I think back to this trip and all the best bits of it that lots of today will be in it. The basketball. The High Line. The show. A great drink post show in a local bar and then dinner tonight. Yep. The best days.

We went to the basketball at Madison Square Garden.
We had breakfast at Chelsea Market.
We walked the High Line.
We went to a taping of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
We had dinner at Blue Hill at Greenwich Village.

  8. Gosh, it’s so wonderful watching you enjoy this amazing city! Your excitement and enthusiasm is palpable… and infectious! I spent some time in Manhatten as a youth and had just the most crazy/best time. It’s a town to make where opportunities present themselves, right there, infront of you, ALL the time. I somehow ended up in a Nike advert and going to a party with Naomi Campbell. (And seriously, if you could see me now you’d be hard pushed imagining THAT!!!) It’s magical, and a little bit unnerving! Thanks so much for sharing your trip xxx
