The last of our #onethings before Rob’s party was a big one. One that we had been meaning to do for at least 2-3 years now, and like I said, nothing like a deadline to give you a kick!
Our driveway was in dire need of getting a top load of gravel on it. It was non existent in patches, dirty and just generally a thin layer compared to the fresh white we had when we moved in. Weather, lots of rain through the years had seen so much of it disappear (who knows where to) but it was looking tired and a bit bluergh. Aren’t we all? Here’s a shot of a patch where we had the most left…it was pretty much just brownish dirt. With my deadline, it became top of the #onething list.
For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.
We measured the driveway (bloody 70 metres) took in a sample of the gravel to a local landscaper supplies place and literally that afternoon a truck came with the delivery. Can I get a HELL YEAH?
You can see the difference in the colour from the edges. LOOK AT THAT FRESHNESS.
After LOTS of wheelbarrows and shovelling and moving around we have it pretty well evenly spread down the driveway and now it looks more like this:
But we still have the problem of this:
Leaves and weeds. It never ends this home business. Being an adult is very exhausting sometimes I tell you. And I can’t even begin to tell you the amount of white dust that now comes in from everyones shoes and how many times I have mopped the floors since…but that’s another #onething all together.
What was your one thing last week?
Anyone else think the crunch of gravel under a car driving is the very best sound of all?
So Downton-esque!
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…
Goodness your house is stunning Beth! Every photo I see I think it is just amazing! even your driveway is stunning.
Thanks Kit x
If you get a chance check out Martha Stewart and her gravel driveway. She basically lifts it during the winter months. I should add, not her personally…
Fiona you can bet that I Totally googled that – my WORD! Heres the link for anyone else interested: http://www.themarthablog.com/2015/10/picking-up-the-roads-at-skylands.html OF COURSE SHE DOES THIS.
love a gravel drive! the sound is magic! thanks beth!
love your garden and driveway!
we have washed river pebbles! I love them but they don’t settle as they are smooth!
and they are a bit small, so they get caught in the shoe treads! great we always do so much research and still have probs! that’s life!
we have crushed limestone in another courtyard area and they work well there!
I cleaned my laundry cupboard! … phew!!!
exhausted! lol m:)X
Well done! x
Looks so good! Do you have a leaf blower? x
You know it! So satisfying to suck them all up!
Inspiring Beth. My #one thing was properly unpacking the suitcase from my holiday which ended 2 1/2 weeks ago. I had got the dirty stuff out straight away though!! It could have sat there for months otherwise.
Also I see that you are wearing your Frankie4 shoes. Aren’t they the best. I got some just before the aforementioned holiday which was in Italy. First time there and I adored it. We walked 15km some days over lots of cobbles and I didn’t have sore feet in those shoes. I’m about to get the red and silver too. My 23 year old who works in fashion approved and suggested wearing them with a black dress and denim jacket when I had only thought of the jeans combo.
Hopefully some rain will help with the dust from the gravel
You can definitely wear them like that – they really are the best shoes!
Oh how desperate I am to hear the crunch of a fresh driveway underfoot this is a #onething that will have to wait #schoolfees first unfortunately!
One of my favourite sounds I agree Jill!
Driveway been on the #onething list for ummm 4 years? You’ve motivated me to get the bloody thing done now. Yours looks fabulous!
Excellent – good luck!
Looks stunning! If you sort out an answer to the white dust let me know! Though the rain due this week may sort it out for you!
Yes hoping a good downpour does the trick!
Beth, who was the landscaper you used. Great job and quick by the sounds of it!
They are great: http://www.highlandsandandgravel.com.au
Oh my goodness, I have the biggest camellia hedge envy now Beth!
Oh thanks – it always looks good this time of year – it’s been slow to flower this year though.
Hello One Thing that I have waited 12 years for: My sister of another mother and soulmate is Finally coming to live with us !~!~!~ !~
Sorting, winnowing, innumerable trips to the Op Shop with bag after bag of stuff that needs to be Not In My House Anymore. It is so refreshing to sweep dust buffaloes and cobwebs that could hold that giant Kong ape dude while he held both girl and airplane. Excited is too small a word for my feelings. Hold us close as she and I drive from the very bottom of Florida to Northern California By Ourselves. Oh my stars.. It’s the trip of a lifetime. Thelma and Louise. Without the men or the guns or the liquor. Or the cliff. I take off the 7th in a big jet for 3000 miles to the East and then We drive back. Cannot Wait.
p.s. you’re the only one who know. don’t tell, kay?
Very exciting!!!
