Miscellaneous 54

The calendar says 5th September today but it seems like the 5th July. Dreary and miserable and cold and did I mention wet? I have not done well with this late winter, that taste of summer for 5 weeks just completely shook up my ability to cope with the cold. Lucky I am getting another delivery of fire wood and there’s plenty of colour I can throw about in vases. There’s not much that will cheer you up better than an old daff. Maybe a 4 year old with chubby hands. MAYBE that’s it.

Speaking of cheering up, did you see that Oh Mabel has a new shop and a new range of delightful linen on offer? Check out those sheets! Clutching my pearls I tell you! I mean LOOK AT THEM. You can find all the new range online here.

The other week I got my hair cut in between colours which I have never done before but my hair had home WEIRD I tell you and something had to be done. When I was there I was put onto a new eyebrow product which I just LOVE and have to share with you all. You might remember that I was previously a fan of Gimme Brow by Benefit or an eyebrow pencil to fill in my overworked and over plucked brows that I managed to ruin in my late teens and early twenties. Anywho, this is like a silk fibre thing – a brush almost that sticks to the hair that you have and magically turns any sparse brows into magical, thick, beautiful brows. I am a little obsessed. You can get them online here (although I got it in a salon).

One last lovely thing to cheer you all up on a Friday arvo is this wonderful book which I pretty much stole from Mrs Woog last weekend when she bought it at the airport. I had seen it at Nikki’s book launch last month and fell in love with it. It’s a collection of life lessons from old Golden Books. I just ADORE it. Have you ever?!

We still have more bloody Saturday sport this weekend and next…dear LORD WHEN WILL IT EVER END? Then we have a pretty quiet one with Fathers Day on Sunday. I will MAYBE cope with the rain when it’s on a day that I can spend on the couch in front of the fire. MAYBE.

What do you have planned for Father’s Day?
Got some daffs in a vase at your place?
Seen this wonderful Golden Book around the traps?

Have a wonderful weekend friends! x

  1. Last game of rugby (the GRAND FINAL no less) is this Sunday. I think I have two weeks respite before Nippers starts. (See also: It Never Ends)

  2. I just luv everything you write. The end.

  3. I really do want that book now. Gorgeous.
We’re hosting Father’s Day this year and I’m making Anne for dessert!! So excited ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Isn’t that the best book?! I bought it the week before last… Just knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it. It’s just so lovely. Hope this bloody weather clears soon. Jx

  5. Lisa Mckenzie says

I hate this weather it is horrible!!!those daffs look beautiful Beth ,and no I have seen that golden book I want one though. We are going to my Sil for lunch for one Pops Father’s Day and the to my Dads first Father’s Day alone, everything is a first now with Mum gone it is really hard Beth.Do have a lovely weekend apart from sport, and yes sit by that fir and read and stuff xx

  6. I have a similar eyebrow extender from my beautician called TK’s eye-brow extender. It is pretty much the same as your one. Although earlier this year I bit the bullet and had my eyebrows tattooed on by Amy Jean.($900, but worth it). I haven’t had eyebrows since I shaved them off at 16 so I could extend my eyeshadow a la Twiggy style half way up my forehead. The things we do. They are fabulous and for some reason I seem to be growing some more eyebrows of my own. Maybe the scratching stimulated the hair to grow. They are individual strokes and look very convincing, last about 2 years and Amy Jean retouches them for $150.

My husband and I don’t have fathers any more so we are going to his son and wife’s for breakfast with the 2 grandchildren.

I hated Saturday sport with my 3, 2 at different fields at the same time and the daughter at dancing. Bloody nightmare.

  7. My god, I just have to comment on Rob’s short film….seriously stunning and that music – magical!

  8. I have the Golden Book too … love it so. Well done on the DNA festival, it’s very exciting what you have created. Be proud x

  9. I saw that book very quickly during the week and loved it. I must go back and get it. I am having an in-between haircut tomorrow which I also never do! Maybe it’s this annoying weather that is causing our hair to have a conniption??? Love your flowers, they are gorgeous as always.

  10. No daffs in vases here as we are heading into Autumn. Have not seen that book but definitely want it. I plan on giving Anne a whirl for Father’s Day which is possibly more of a road test for my book club the following week but hubby will feel spesh all the same ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Oh fuck! Father’s Day! Thanks for the reminder! So busy getting ready to escape the Canberra cold and go on holidays I forgot!

  12. Laying in bed in a lovely hotel, in the dark, snoring Huz beside me and device in hand. Thank you for a lovely little post! PS: how amazing is the Oh Mabel range? So good! I have plans to buy for the rest if the family, everyone needs Mabel in their lives!

  13. Saw that lilltle golden book the other day in a book shop. Loved it.

  14. I LOVE that Little Golden Book. Some good little nuggets of wisdom in there. I’m so happy that my mum has kept our Little Golden Book collection – I get some lovely flashbacks to my childhood when I read them to my kids now. There’s another book coming out at the beginning of October called “Everything I Need to Know About Christmas I Learned from a Little Golden Book” so I might have to get that one too.

  15. Noooo, you can’t be serious… I have only just fallen in love with Gimme Brow and even blogged about all things Benefit yesterday and now you tell me you have found something better? WTF. I thought I had finally caught up with all you town folk. God help me, I think I will be stuck under my rock forever, turns out I really do live a sheltered life up here at BFN. I don’t care, I am happy with my Gimme Brow and feel like a whole new person with eyebrows all the time. ha ha ha. God I love your photos Beth, such a contrast to my life…..no flowers to be seen here! Just fake ones. ha ha ha.

  16. Little Golden Book! Want.
