It’s Easter school holiday time and you know what that means? Well, for a start your children will tell you they are hungry 138 times a day. They will also tell you that they are bored 139 times a day. I have a solution! Something that combines food AND activity. And there isn’t a fucking rainbow rubber loom band in sight!
Cheat Easter Cookies
2 cups soft icing mixture
3 tablespoons water
Packet Arnotts Milk Arrowroot biscuits
Smarties & other decorating items you’d like
1. Mix together the icing sugar and the water. I added 2 tablespoons first to check consistency, but it was too thick so I added another tablespoon to get it smooth and glossy – just like my all time favourite icing – finger bun icing!
2. Divide the mixture into 3 bowls and add a drop of food colouring to it. Mix to combine
3. Take a biscuit and spread the icing on evenly with a bread knife. Or palette knife if you’re a little fancy!
4. Set aside and decorate in any way you like. We used smarties and silver balls to create cute Easter patterns.
Little people will come up with a messier, crazier version but they will taste and look just as good!

What have you got planned these holidays?
Just how many times a day will you prepare food for your kids?
Thank gawd for teens i had no idea what the f*uck a loom band is or was LOL oops Love this idea and i am glad my will power is strong love green smarties hehe. This is on my list to make YES this weekend and next. Love doing Easter things thanks Beth! x
Be very grateful that you have moved beyond the loom bracelet!
For us Yanks who’ve only spent a coupla months in Australia, what is a smartie? Is it chocolate filled like the American M&M? It looks like that.
Sorry yes – exactly like a M&M (but superior of course!)
They probably have no yucky high fructose corn syrup in them! Hershey’s has gone that route, and now their chocolates & syrup taste inferior.
Even we can make this in between beading and looping our fabulous rubber band bracelets! Hooray for cookies and little girls xo
Ha! Enjoy Krista 🙂
We’re so doing these! Just love those wee hands icing away.
I know! Adorable dimples. I never want her to grow up.
Oh if only we had Arrowroot biscuits in this part of the world!
Shall I send you some?
Oh my gawd! This post has brought me back about 30 years! I used to do this with my Mum during the school holidays. Yummo!
I know right? My Mum would trot these out for us all the time. They are a family favourite at birthday parties round here.
Too cute. We’ve done this before. Thanks for the reminder to do it again. Might fill in 10 minutes or so 😉
Exactly!
Oh Beth! I am onto these! x
Nice one Amanda…enjoy!
very fancy! my kids have a hard time not eating ALL the decorations before they hit the biccie. this can be my easter ‘craft’!
Done x
Love these! Thanks for sharing this idea – Arrowroots are the perfect shape for an Easter egg. My six-year-old will love doing this project. Have pinned it.
They sure are…and they can be Christmas baubles too!
Doing a bit of travelling over the holidays, moving my older 2, daughter to Brisbane, son to Central coast. Where did that time go, both engaged and all independent!!
Lucky I run a primary school canteen, so I can still have my “cuteness” fix! we will be having those biscuits, this Thursday along with other yummy stuff, straight after the Easter Hat Parade…yay
We have Easter hat parade Friday…heaven help us all!
I love these I used to make these back in the olden days to fancy up an afternoon or morning tea!
Fancy up they do Lisa!
We had fun with this on the first day of school hols, although perhaps my tribe of decorators could learn a little restraint 🙂
