A Very BEVERLEY Christmas: The Tree

Today was the 1st December which meant ONE thing. TIME TO GET MY CHRISTMAS ON. And first on the list was a Christmas Tree. Of course. Der.

We drove to the Christmas tree farm that we have been to for the last 2 years but it was closed, so we ventured further down the road to another. Handy, being in the country isn’t it?

It was hot. The kids were a little frazzled. Rob was over my perfectionism. And did I mention it was hot? Looks the picture though doesn’t it?

There’s much deliberation at a Christmas Tree farm. Each one looks right, except for that one thing.

And that one thing, in our instance, was that our tree was fucking massive. Griswald massive. Oh you BET I made him cut that down.

Her name was Charlotte, apparently. So the girls told me. She was netted up, and sent on her way.

We spent the afternoon Christmasing up the house. And it’s worth it. Our house does Christmas very well.

It’s perhaps the BIGGEST, widest tree we’ve ever had. Wide is the word. GIRTH.

I tend to throw everything at our Christmas tree. It’s a little dodgy. A little home made. A little colourful. And I love it.

The house smells amazing. The mood is set. Christmas, whether we like it or not, is a coming. And I’m starting to get excited…

Don’t forget to get plenty of other Christmas tips on my iPad Magazine App BEVERLEY. You can download it from the iTunes Store here!

  1. Can’t put ours up this year until after the Sweet 16 party on Wednesday.

  2. When I saw the picture of your tree earlier on Facebook, I wanted to say your tree looked wide/had girth, but thought it a bit rude. You said it though, so that’s ok – I laughed! Jess x

  3. Your tree looks amazing but we don’t put our tree up until the ‘babies’ have their birthdays. I would have two children in December… One baby turns 1 and the other 20, so far more excited about that, in this house, than Christmas.

  4. I love that reindeer! Where do I find such a reindeer? I’m looking to decorate with a Funky Christmas Theme, and that totally works πŸ˜‰

  5. As I don’t celebrate Christmas I never truly understand the holiday, but to see you and the family go and cut your own tree… That is special!

  6. It looks amazing!! I have such a small flat that the one year I put up a tree, I just made it 3/4 round, so it could easily be pushed into a corner! Hah! When I grow up and get a proper house, I’ll do a whole tree!

  7. Love your work Beverley, I miss having a real tree, next year when our house is built it has to happen. Nothing beats the smell of a real tree! Also love that you hold the 1st of December rule too πŸ™‚

  8. Love it! We have a really big tree in a pot – still growing – but half of it is looking a bit dead and brown so I think we need to go get a new one. I can’t wait!
And I love Daisy’s painting in the background too – matchingly wide girths on those trees πŸ™‚

  9. i can just imagine that smell!
    it would be amazing!
this year i let our boys decorate – and so most decorations are at the bottom half of the tree
other years, i would have snuck out and fixed this all up while they were sleeping
not this year – its just perfect the way it is
congrats! on the ipad app – will check it out once santa delivers the ipad xx

  10. That man must love you baaaaad! Your tree looks gorgeous, so it’s worth all the hassle πŸ™‚

  11. Never has there ever been a Christmas tree too large. Rules in our house from when I was a little girls were that the tree must always hit the ceiling.

When Mum and Dad moved to a house with 14 foot ceilings, the rules were changed, because the doors in houses built in the 1850s were much smaller than they should have been!

The smell of Christmas is always the tree to me.

  12. I love your Christmas-y house.
And that is one good looking tree!

I simply cannot embrace cutting down a Christmas tree wearing summery clothes though!
    Where is the snow?
Christmas is almost an entirely different holiday here in the southern hemisphere…I have such a hard time with it!
I am trying to get excited though…so happy holidays!

  13. I can’t wait to get our Tree! Tomorrow is the day! Excitement is buzzing!
Also, where did you get that reindeer?! It’s perfection! xx

  14. Fucking massive, and fucking awesome. Love the Griswald reference too. That never gets old on me. I was cracking Griswald jokes all day yesterday on our trip out to the Christmas tree farm, which looks like it was much like your day. though in the two bedroom unit we reside in, we got a much smaller tree than yours. But I can’t believe how alike they look decorated! I too throw everything at it. Certainly don’t take a less is more approach to my tree! I loved that my son renamed the baubles, planets! The baby, however, keeps removing the planets! I have a long month ahead….

  15. I’m so tempted to get a real tree for the smell alone, but alas, as a MASSIVE arachnaphobe, I won’t give myself permission.

Besides, we’ve had the same tree now since the year jake was born and I’d like to eventually hand it down. The Smith Family Tree if you will.

Ps: when I get an iPad, Beverley will be my first app!

    Ya hear that Santa? iPad!!

    Gabs x

  16. You picked a good’un, & your photos are just magical!

  1. […] start it all off by going to the Christmas tree farm (you can see how we did it in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013) but Rob has been away all weekend and I didn’t think that we could do it without […]
