It’s Christmas Eve afternoon, if you look out the window it looks you could be overseas in the dead of winter. Rob’s Mum arrived before and declared that it was the quickest trip from Sydney to Scotland. Our little village is covered in thick white fog and mist and we are all ready for Christmas tomorrow.
This evening we head down to the pub to see Santa and all our friends for a drink. Tomorrow we are a travelling circus leaving here in the morning after presents, heading to Rob’s brothers’ place in the morning pop over, lunch at my Mum’s place and then driving up to my Dad’s place at the beach in the night. I guess that’s what comes with being a pregnant designated driver this year. We just had the best Christmas news of all – Rob’s Dad is finally out of hospital this afternoon after weeks of being stuck in there. We don’t need to get anything else now.
Christmas over the years for us is always about food and family and friends. Because to me, those things equal love.
This is going to be our last Christmas just the four of us, the little one inside is well and truly making itself known though with lots of kicking. I said to Daisy this morning that we will get to enjoy Christmas and the magic of it all once this baby comes along for so many more years. How lucky is that?
I hope that the this evening and the next few days are a special time for you and your family. I know there are many Mums and Dads and Grandparents out there like me who have spent weeks and months prepping for tomorrow, thinking of thoughtful gifts and presents for everyone, food to eat, things to do, decorating and the like. I hope YOU get to enjoy it without being too tired or frazzled. I hope your kids enjoy the magic, that if you are spending time with friends that you hold them close to your heart and fill their bellies with laughter and good food. I hope for those of you sick or with loved ones who are not well, that you can enjoy things the best you can and hope that next year will be better. For those having Christmas without loved ones for the first time, I hope you can look to the memories of your times together with a smile and not too many tears.
Enjoy, be safe and take a moment to sit back tomorrow and see just how lucky we are. We are loved, we have people to love. Life can be hard and busy and grown up but we are in the thick of it, and that’s something. Something pretty wonderful.
Merry Christmas friends x
*Sniff* what a nice Christmas post. Last year I said the same thing you said to Daisy about our 3rd baby-to-be when talking to my big (5yo) girl about it all. This is our first Chrissy as a Fabulous Five
