Evening walk

I had an inevitable cranky day yesterday – bound to happen with a tired 4 year old in tow, making sure kids are on best behaviour at all times, driving – blah blah blah. When we arrived at our cabin I could feel all of us exhale. We had our own space for a few days, a kitchen (and washing machine again!), some down time and all around outside the most beautiful woodlands that stretch down to the coast.

Rob suggested I go for a walk after the girls were in bed (ha) and so I did. It was around 9.00pm at night (not that you’d know it) there was no one around and it was JUST what I needed to clear the head.

I walked down to the water, along the road to the next little village that consisted of a pub, hall and small food store along a tiny rock wall.

I then turned back and headed up a track, one of so many that seem to be around in the UK, that are just so beautiful. They ramble along, up and down, through the prettiest green trees and woods you could imagine.

Fairies must be all around – they just must be – and in the woods, under the pines? It’s dark…and not somewhere I was interested at exploring at that stage of the day! I ran into a HEDGEHOG! Of course I did! We stopped and considered each other in the path and then went our separate ways as I climbed the track back to the cabin.

The fox gloves are the prettiest weeds I ever did see, as was the view from the top. I went back inside, poured a prosecco and what do you know we saw? THREE BABY DEER. Who walked past, stopped and ate some grass and then pranced off in their best Disney way.

Foxgloves! Hedgehogs! DEER! Oh my.

  13. Beth, am I too late to tell you about a magical place on Skye? It’s called the Fairy Glen. The girls will love it. You will love it. It’s a remarkable natural wonder. Scotland in miniature. Miniature mountains, glassy lakes, and valleys. It’s enchanting. Fairies for sure. It’s near Uig, I think. Jen x
