Miscellaneous 41

You know what I did this morning? Ticked another thing off THE LIST. Now this one has been siting there for just shy of two years. TWO. And I know that because I just looked to see when this post was written. I finally went to the tree farm and purchased 6(!) new trees that were all on sale. My mate Fiona drove me because she is a legitimate gardener and has a trailer. I got 3 silver birches for down near Rob’s studio, a couple of maple’s and a standard crabapple that will go somewhere. Great bargains. Good fun. Good for the soul (but not my shoulder). Now to get planting!

It’s a bit bloody chilly down here today just 12 at the moment. I can see the fire going on later this afternoon and a bottle of something being opened up too. It’s been a shit of a week….I have been in agony with a shoulder injury since Saturday LAST week and nothing much seems to be helping. I’ve had massages, cupping, acupuncture, osteo and it;s only today that I feel a very SLIGHT improvement. And the worst bit? No stickers on my chart this week. Well, one, but that’s it. I want to feel better and get back into it soon. But before then I suspect some wine, rest and a movie on the couch will make things right again.

Tom-Hanks-Big-540x540

Speaking of movies, last Friday night Rob and I somehow got sucked into watching Big on TV. Remember that movie from 1988? We got  wondering about whether Tom Hanks won an Oscar that year for it, so Rob checked and we saw the list for Oscar movies in 1988 (the 61st Academy Awards). Man, there were some films that year. Have a look at the list:

  • Rain Man
  • Dangerous Liasons
  • Mississippi Burning
  • Working Girl
  • The Accidental Tourist
  • A Fish called Wanda
  • Big
  • The Accused
  • Gorillas in the Mist
  • Bull Durham
  • Die Hard
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit
  • Willow
  • Beaches
  • Beetlejuice
  • Coming to America

Can you believe ALL of them? In one year? What a year! Good times 1988, good times.

I quite liked the look of this app I saw this week. You type into the recipe builder 4 ingredients that you have in your fridge/cupboard and it comes up with a recipe for you. Not bad for busy people when inspiration can lack at the end of the day. I read about it here.

It’s kids only day over at Temple & Webster today and if you follow this link and sign up (for new members only) you get $15 credit to spend. I had to stop myself from receiving Temple & Webster emails a while ago because it was too dangerous, but there are always good bargains to be had and especially so if you are looking for things for kids. Onto it.

I’ve got a pretty quiet weekend ahead of me this weekend. Rob has gone away with his brother fishing for the weekend so I am flying solo. That means as much time as possible on the couch watching endless movies on Apple TV. It’s also Yabbie Day on Sunday so that means a morning out in the creek attempting to find another one like I did last year. Still so proud of that!

Planted a tree lately?
Any other years in contention for the BEST year of films ever?
What movie should I watch this weekend?
Got any yabbie catching tips?
Happy weekend friends!

Yabbie catching 101, use an opera house yabbie pot (or similar) and bait it with one par boiled potato. Set overnight for best result. Good luck!!

  2. Leila Minter says

Tie a piece of the smelliest meat you can find on to a piece of string, use the kitchen strainer once you get a bite and straight into an onion bag. Hope you catch a big’un!

  3. Annette Hill says

Wow 1988 was a boomer movie year!
Love the trees, get Rob to do the digging and planting while you direct from the couch.
Movie recs – how about a Streep festivus? She’s so frickin’ talented – It’s Complicated, Julie & Julia, Kramer vs Kramer, The Devil Wears Prada….
Rest up, get the girls to paint your toenails, eat some great cheese.

  4. Your weather is THE BEST! I am so excited it’s the end of Summer today, yet we’ve still got days in the 30’s next week. I want a cold night snuggled up on the couch in front of the fire – perhaps not the flying solo bit though!

  5. Willow is one of my favourite films of all time.
Hope you have a weekend full of easy, and that your shoulder heals up post haste.

12! Goodness. A balmy 27 here today. Love your tree buying. I want some mature trees. I have pics running around and around in my head of things of want to do with our space. More trees is one

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

There were the most amazing mature trees there for sale…huge things that cost thousands of dollars. It would be so great to get one and whack it in – instant garden!

Found you on HOUZZ…you are a very cool lady, I’m loving your blog 🙂 I have my 1988 TBT profile pic up on Facebook- thought it might make you laugh! 1988…Great Times. Here’s hoping your shoulder feels better…thanks for sharing the little jewels of your life xo

  10. You just reminded me to onto the firewood guy. Our shed is empty eeeeek! Can’t believe it’s Autumn already.
I’m on the look out to plant some citrus trees this Autumn. A row of lime (for the gin and vodka drinkers), lemon and mandarins trees and then I must get the winter veggie patch planted. So much to do at the change of season!
Good luck with that shoulder x

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Thanks Miriam I finally feel better today THANK GOD I was ready to go mad if it didm;t improve. I need to get onto that firewood pile too – we have a little but not much. Lucky we have space in the garage now thanks to our clean up.

  11. Emma Steendam says

Good job on the trees Beth. We planted a heap of trees (a lot gifted to us on our engagement) in our old home, which we will be returning to shortly (after thinking we never would be…huh). We’ve got a Chinese pistachio, silver birch, a few Manchurian pears, crabapple, magnolia, lemon and orange trees and a few others…
    Happy growing xxx
