Teeny tiny fish, big pond

Today I get to use a line I have waited my whole life to say. “You are going to have to speak to my agent about that” and or “let’s get my people to talk to your people”.

Today I have people. Well, a person. And a very good person at that. Lorraine Murphy has taken a big gamble {I think} and chosen me as one of her 5 bloggers to start her new business: The Remarkables Group. I’m the one in the group that people will say “who is she?”. Lorraine has been pioneering the way in which PR companies work with brands in social media over the past 8 years, and in more recent years, particularly with bloggers through her work at Naked Communications. I am hopeless at trying to work out how to work with brands and unlock the potential this blog. And I truly believe that there is potential here. Somewhere. I’ve never been comfortable with the current solutions that are available to bloggers – and having a professional to join the brand and the blogger in a way that works, that fits, well it just makes sense. Bloggers are better off writing and sharing stories than in trying to negotiate that side of things. Having worked with Ford Australia in the Kidspot Top 50 challenge I have been excited by the prospect of consumer driven advertising. We buy the stuff, so we should know how to sell the stuff right? And being able to do so in creative, funny, quirky ways, in our own way, through our blogs to connect with all these amazing people that read my blog every day, well I reckon that’s pretty cool. We are probably a long way off brands truly realising the potential that bloggers have, but today is the start. And I’m seriously honoured to be a part of it, way here at the start of that revolution.

So what does that mean for BabyMac? Not much right now. Hopefully down the track, working with brands that I truly love and use and would recommend if you saw me in the street and sharing them with you. In my own way and style. It means that I get to work closely with some amazing women, the best bloggers in Australia right now, and I get to call them my colleagues. I HAVE COLLEAGUES. It means that I’m a little less alone in this game sitting here at my kitchen table in my small little village. I guess it makes me a little more professional? Maybe. I’m not sure. I’m just excited about it. Now, I’m off to speak with my agent. Snort. Show Pony factor 10.0
