Mum on the loose: Days 2, 3 & 4

My liver, lungs and heart breathed a sigh of relief when I drove back into my driveway yesterday afternoon. Kids ran to me, a husband smiled at me, and it was good to be back. What a huge few days it’s been for this Mama – trips to Sydney and back and Melbourne and back, catch ups and new meetings and learning’s and just some good old fashioned fun. It’s been such a long time since I have had so much fun.

There was inappropriately bad food, drink and other lifestyle choices made. Thank GOODNESS.

There was an inability to sleep even though I had a bed to myself and no one to wake up for. THE MOTHERS CURSE.

There were silly pranks (like Mrs Woog telling the air hostess that it was my first time on a plane and could they make a big deal out of it which meant I got to go into the cockpit and sit in the Captain’s chair!) ARE WE 17?!

There was meeting old friends for the first time who were even better in real life than in person which you would think impossible. I’m looking in your direction Gourmet Girlfriend

And you hottest blogger that ever there was ever Veggie Mama. She makes 15 weeks pregnant look better than I did, um, ever.

And you Pennyย who’s smart and funny and who likes a drink as much as me…

And Sarah from A Beach Cottage who I may have scared off with my initial gushing but who I (hopefully) won over eventually with my truck driver swearing, wine guzzling and of course dazzling beauty. What? It’s exciting meeting someone in the flesh who you have read and admired for years…

There was reconnecting and laughing with old friends – likeย Kim my room mate who made me laugh till wee came out (note to self organisers of blogging swag giveaways: Tena lady pads are required for Mothers who have weak pelvic floor muscles NOT disposable breast pads). I wondered how it can be that we have only known each other for a year?!

And Mrs Woog and Eden who are some of the funniest, smartest birds I know that I am lucky enough to call my friends.

I drank waaaay too much. Smoked too many ciggies. Swore like a truck driver and overshared waaaay too many times.

And when I left that pretty city of Melbourne yesterday my soul had been filled up with laughter and clarity and friendships and learning’s and I can’t thank my main man enough for giving me the chance to have those days away from my family. I now get his fishing trips and I won’t expect any calls home when he is away at his next one.

Now it’s time for a bit of reality, some School days and ballet and hockey, sleepless nights and normal life and you know what? That sounds just about perfect to me!

Don’t you hate how a muma can’t sleep when there is a rare opportunity to, buggar! Still, good times were had, and that’s often better than sleep. Enjoy reality, it does it is pretty perfect..x

  6. Dude!!!!!!!!
waking up to read this this morning ALMOST makes up for the fact that I won’t see you till Grandparents day at Daisy’s school or June/July at my place.
Damn it either way that’s too long away.

  21. Its definately the break that mamas need in order to recharge and reenergise back into life and routine. Glad you had a fab time! xx

  22. Oy tell me about the sleep thing. This is a fucking joke. Then again I could hear the people in the room next to me urinating. Walls were too thin man!
Lovely to boogie with you Beth.

  23. I actually used the term “mums on the loose” to describe the DP conference at my panel discussion in Canberra. Glad to know it wasn’t an isolated observation!

  24. ohhh that sounds amazing! Certainly on my ‘to-do’ list hopefully next year!

  25. You have summed it all up way more perfectly than my exhausted, hungover, dehydrated brain will ever manage! Loved seeing you again, sorry I nearly gave you a black eye with the door that one time, also, you might be relieved to know that no foodbabies were birthed…. Until next time! X

  26. Looks like a grand old time lady. Love the photos! Glad you got to have some fun and it is always nice to get back to a little ‘normal’ living xo

  27. Far too much fun…lots of women I love to listen too, well read but I pretend is are all talking so it is sorta listening.. Do you do that?!

  28. Love you so so hard. When can i see you again?

    XXXXX

  29. Would also suggest Mylanta in the goodie bags. I have serious heartburn from too much champagne, cracking a diet coke at 6am from the mini bar in a vain attempt to ward off hangover. Eating 7 sauso rolls at afternoon tea still trying to ward off said hangover and inhaling a room service burger at midnight on the bed with Mrs Woog.

Fabulous to meet you too, Beth – just loved you.

  30. Looks awesome! So glad you had a great weekend. And congrats on making the top 50! That is unreal, well done. Very well deserved, remember that in those moments of doubt lovely lady!

  31. can’t wait for Grandparents day at school or July in Melbs…either way it’s too goddamn far away.
    xx
