Now THIS is a dinner party

You may recall a lunch that my sister and her husband hosted last year, or maybe it was even the year before that now. Now these two seriously know how to entertain their guests. You think I can put on a spread for visitors? These guys are in another planet. People are desperate to get an invite for dinner, or a simple BBQ because it is rarely ever that. They plan, they decorate, they supply amazing wines and the food is always exceptionally good. When I grow up, I want to be able to host a dinner party like this one.

A few weeks ago now they hosted a 13(!) course degustation for some close friends of theirs who are getting married. The couple to be wanted to sample some wines for their wedding, and my brother in law {the chef} had a week off work so he suggested this dinner. He had a week to plan it, prep it and when she put up this album on her Facebook page I knew I just had to share it with the world. It is exceptional. Chris deserves all the praise in the world, and I hoped some of you might just give it to him. So. Without any further waffling from me, I give you THE home cooked dinner party of 2012, prepared lovingly by the amazing Chris Mitchell who I am honoured to call my brother in law.

Sit back and enjoy!

    • Tamara, they got so many lovely dinner plates and things from when they got married last year, it was a good chance to use them all at once! The green plates are Jasper Conran and I like them VERY much and secretly covet them ALL!

  29. I have just drooled all over my laptop, Beth, and my eyeballs are rolling about on the floor somewhere after popping out of their sockets (I am typing by sheer intuition). Tres AMAZING! And I’m so hungry right now. Thinking of those triple-cooked chips xxx

  30. Oh dear God… the bar is too high, too high i tell you!! Please tell me these people are not stunningly beautiful. Surely they can’t have superhero entertaining powers AND great beauty? I need a lukewarm cup of tea and a digestive biscuit to recover.

  31. Holy Moly! That’s just incredible. Surely he should be opening a hatted restaurant or something. Lucky you to have him as your bro-in-law.

  32. Are you serious? That is beyond amazing. That couple are incredible…..but who got to do the washing up?

  33. That is beyond words incredible -so lucky to have such a talented bro in law!

  34. Wow! Double wow!! Triple wow! Amazing… and to think I was quite proud of my wee Greek salad knocked up between helping Little Ms write some words!!

Love the photos and the inspiration.. the table looks divine too and I bet they are great company.

  35. Do you know what I love about this Beth? The food IS amazing and the flowers and presentation are ALL gorgeous, but how lucky are the bride and groom to have such friends as your brother-in-law and your sister? People are so kind to each other, and he did all this during his week off! I love it. Imagine the memories they’ll already have from planning their wedding, including this gorgeous dinner with their special friends. What an inspiration!Love it all, well done!

  36. Have you noticed that your stats on this post are higher than normal? That’d be ME continually checking back here and foodporning my way through my day. Oh. My. GOD. I am dying here – dying. The fact that they have my dream champagne sitting on the table is one thing, but oh, the food, the food, the food. Please, point me in the direction of your brother-in-law’s restaurant – if he does this at home I’d love to see what he comes up with at work.
