Back in Black Ball 2018

Can you hear that? It’s me, sitting down with a HUGE sense of relief knowing that everything is done. No more ball. No more worries. No more organising. No more stress. No more visitors. The June long weekend is done and dusted for another year.

I thought I’d share with you all the shots that I have (I unfortunately didn’t take all that many because: see above). It’s been a FULL ON week. Rob is away so I have had to juggle the three kids by myself as well as a house full of family. It’s been chaos…wonderful, crazy chaos that always reigns on the long weekend.

Friday morning was set up day where we all come together in the hall and crank the tunes, decorate, set tables and get everything done (between school hours of course). It’s my favourite day of the whole time as you run on adrenalin, making stuff up as you go and seeing it all come together at last. Our theme was “Back in Black” a little dark, misty, wintery MOFO on Burrawang, Industrial NY loft/art space and something completely different to what we have done in the past. Mrs Munro created some great odes to Bromley & skulls on the wall with ELECTRICAL TAPE and an overhead projector. She is SO clever.

Saturday we had to do a few last minute bits & pieces with the bar and of course I tried to find something to wear (talk about LAST MINUTE). I found a frock in the corner of a very unsuspecting local shop in Moss Vale that fit! And was under $200 so I was happy!

All the photos on the night didn’t show it off to it’s potential so here are a couple that I sent to friends and family asking if I could ACTUALLY WEAR THIS. Excuse the bad shots in my bedroom with hair and unshowered for 3 days look. This is how I look most of the time.

My family arrived and there was feeding kids, getting dressed, having a champers and heading out the door for a night of full work – it’s fun to attend but boy is there work involved behind the scenes. This was me snapped by my big bro before he drove me up there with a raffle prize in tow!

The place looked amazing on the night and I’m pretty sure that everyone agreed with us. I was so proud of what we achieved on literally no money and a lot of creative insights from Mrs Munro. Not bad for the old School of Arts! I loved the projection on the screen of some black and white movies…very cool! As well as spray painted dead hydrangeas and a SHIT tonne of candles.

Whilst I may have looked 5 months pregnant with a food baby and worked WAY harder than any of us expected on the night (we were basically the wait staff) we all had a BALL. The band were AMAZING. We had so many great prizes donated from local businesses and everyone seemed to have fun.

So you know what? I’m OK with that. Blurry photos and all!

Now it’s time to relax (of course after I have to drive the hire linen back to Sydney tomorrow of course) and try and forget about the drama…and focus on the fun. That way I might find myself putting my hands up again to do it all over again.
