Manhattan Monday

We’ve just got back to the hotel from another morning hitting the town while the sun shone. I’ve just done a quick calculation and I’ve clocked up 101.5kms since we arrived last week. That’s not bad is it? Lucky for me there’s plenty of walking between all that pizza and burgers…so much walking and so much to see and do…you could stay in this city for a year and still not see it all.

The weather has warmed (around 16 degrees or so) and spring is starting to burst forth in blossom and little green leaves and all the bulbs planted along the avenues. This morning we left the hotel and went straight to the Empire State Building to see if we could wrangle our way through the crowds (lucky for us there was hardly any so up we went.

How many times have you seen this place in movies and photos? I felt like a kid walking out there into the warm, still Spring morning. No wind, lots of sun and not many people. And that view. THAT VIEW. Glorious.

It was great to see all the places we have visited…little pockets of green that I know we have sat in, long avenues we have walked down.

From there we walked down to Hudson Yards to the start of the High Line again and walked along there to The Whitney for a wander around, some lunch in the Meat Packing District and then back home via Bleeker Street, Magnolia Bakery, Carries Apartment. It’s one surprise after another in this great city. Man we have had fun.

We visited the observation deck of the Empire State Building.
We walked the High Line.
We visited the Whitney Museum of American Art.
We had lunch at Dos Caminos in the Meat packing district.
I bought at cupcake from Magnolia Bakery.

  1. Julie Harris says

I like your black Alex Frankie 4 shoes. I have mine on in Sydney in the silver colour. I’ll just pretend I’m in New York and not home with a sick child who is going to miss his first high school camp due to a chest infection.

  2. I have a Magnolia Bakery Cupcake recipe that I scrawled on a post-it note whilst flying from Manchester to Ireland in 2005. I saw it in an in-flight magazine and had to write it down. It’s still on the post-it note, glued into a scrap book and has been my go-to recipe for all things cake (birthdays, school etc) ever since! Ha! I can’t believe that you not only visited that very bakery but linked me to their site. That’s just made my day! x

  3. You’ve taken me back to 1998 when I first moved to New York as a young nanny and have those exact photos!

  4. If you get time, go up the Rockefeller Centre. It’s even better than the Empire State I think (also, a great coffee shop in the shops in the food court downstairs), and because you can see the Empire State, it looks even more New Yorky.
Loving reliving NYC again. It’s my very favourite place.

  5. all ab/fab thankyou for sharing beth!
