I’m in the process of planning for a wedding in the village that we are decorating in a few weeks time. We are in charge of all the decorations and set up (bump in) as well as the post event clean up (bump out) a few days later. It’s been fun to plan for a party – one of my favourite things to do – and with some of my best mates it’s going to be like some of the balls we have done over the year.
Last week we were meeting to get some ideas nailed down for decorations and I had to get a few herbs and pots. As soon as I bought them inside to the kitchen I was reminded just how easy and cheap it can be to give your kitchen a boost.
Our local fruit market in Bowral (Harris Farm) always has a great selection of plants and potted colour for sale for next to nothing. There’s lots of places that do this kind of thing whether it’s your local garden centre or nursery, hardware store or Bunnings type place – I got three good sized pots of herbs for $10. Bargain!
Then I went to the nursery and grabbed some terracotta pots for $2 each (I think you could get them even cheaper at a hardware store) and what do you have?
A gorgeous feature for your kitchen for just $16! Potted herbs look so great in a kitchen as a feature – plus they are edible and can be cut back and grown back over and over. Use them as table decorations for every day use, or for a table setting for a dinner party (surrounded by candles in jars and lots of plain white napery). I love how they look in kitchens sitting against a splash back with some boards – they are just a great decoration.
And for under $20, well anyone can get on board right? Bunches of flowers I ADORE, but they can be expensive and often only last a week – these will last for months!
