Mumcore

Greetings from fatal hard drive land where I have seriously just broken yet another laptop in our house. Got word from Keith the computer guy that my Macbook pro is DED and a new hard drive required and so I was making do on my very old Macbook that was pretty much broken but I managed to revive for a few hours yesterday to get a blog post out to only now have turned into its friend with another spinning wheel of death. Not interesting I know, but moral of the story is, if you have a lap top or computer with precious things on it, like, you know, you life. Back that right on up. Get ye external hard drive and back it up good and proper like. OK? That can be your #onething for the week.

Gulp.

Discovered some funny photos deep in Facebook last night that had me reminiscing about St Paddy’s day. We went over to Ireland for Rob’s 30th Birthday almost 10 years ago now – met up with my little sister and her (then) boyfriend (now husband) who were living in London at the time, along with some other mates who were living over there at the time and just had the very best time EVER there for a few weeks. What a trip! Oh the memories we had last night thinking about that holiday and all the wonderful things we did. I got knocked up with Daisy in Dubai on the way home. Good times.

But that’s all besides the point really.

Had to share something I learned on the weekend from our houseguests who were staying for the night from Sydney. Check out the hostess gift that I scored straight from JRG’s latest range for Target. I don’t think this comes at Target Country? Cheese anyone?!

Post dinner they were discussing various fashion trends that they had seen around the traps and one that I was completely unaware of (not surprising really) NORMCORE. Have you heard of it? Normcore is a unisex fashion trend characterized by unpretentious, average-looking clothing. “Normcore” is a portmanteau of the words “normal” and “hardcore”

It’s kind of like this:

Or like this (according to Google images at least).

Kids these days…

I smiled and nodded and acted like I had heard of it, but seriously I have NEVER heard of such a thing, it just seems to be dressing up in high waisted Mom jeans with white shirts and joggers?

Normcore wearers are people who do not wish to distinguish themselves from others by their clothing.[11] This is not to mean that they are unfashionable people who wear whatever comes to hand, but that they consciously choose clothes that are undistinguished – except, frequently, for a highly visible label to impart prestige. The “normcore” trend has been interpreted as a reaction to fashion oversaturation resulting from ever faster-changing fashion trends.

Huh.

Got me thinking about my own fashion style and how I seem to be in that ever present just had a baby fashion funk. But maybe it’s actually EXACTLY ON TREND?

High waisted jeans? Tick! (To cover up ample guts but whatever)
Plain t shirts? Tick!
Joggers? Tick!
Deer in the headlights expression? Tick! (Tiredness and bewilderment at being outnumbered by our offspring but whatever)

Here we are watering the school veggie garden looking very NORMCORE.

So just when I was starting to feel in a fashion funk I can completely not be because we’re apparently on trend. MUMCORE. It’s a thing.

Are you across Normcore too?
Joggers, jeans, beltless aka Jerry. Heaven help us all.
Got anything from JPG’s Target range?

Hope you have a good weekend! We have not much planned and with no computer access (thank you Rob for letting me access yours to get this done) it could be very quiet indeed. Hope you all have a good one!

Ha! Yes! I had a baby 5 months ago, and am fully going to embrace this trend. Ps you were a total hornbag back then and still a total hornbag now. On a side note, I actually saw a car with ‘hornbag on board’ stickered on its back window this week. Gotta love Queensland.

  2. Haha I totally rock the normacore look. Jeans, t shirts and sneakers are my uniform!

  3. Noooooo not a fan. It looks like a return of that 90s communist-like look. I hate it. Plus you have to be in your early 20s to possibly get away with it. At 39 I’d just look like I couldn’t move on. Jesus get me a pair of heels and a G&T quick smart!!! Beth btw you are so rockin, no-where near that “Norm” crap, it’s name says it all really. Norm ugh.

  4. I shall go kiss my hard drive to let it know it is loved.

  5. Haven’t got anything from the JPG range, but I think I need to rectify this situation immediately!
