One thing: That appointment

I’m hobbling around this morning after moving my Mum and Step Dad into their new house yesterday. I’ve spent the past few days scrubbing, packing, reminiscing, laughing and sweating! Last night I crashed out in bed and a few hours woke to not being able to move…I’m not the spring chicken I used to be. Even Rob had to get Maggie in and out of the cot for me as I was completely seized up. So while there have been MANY things done this week, there was still  time for #onething.

For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

This week? THAT appointment. That I actually hadn’t put off because it’s so important not to, but I trotted in to see my Ob again for my 2 yearly pap smear. I really need to get some proper alone time….these appointments of root canal and pap smears just really won’t cut it.

Maybe it’s the fact that I have just had a kid and spent much of it losing any kind of care about anything to do with my nether regions, but I was happy to spread em, catch up with my Dr to discuss her farm and all the wonderful cooking she does, I didn’t actually even realise it was being done. Well, OK, a hand will doesn’t quite tickle, but what I’m saying is, it’s no biggie, don’t put it off.

And she was telling me that as from July next year, the screening tests change somewhat where they test for HPV and if you are in the low risk category you will only have to be tested every 5  years. So there you go. GO. Book your appointment and get checked. It’s a good excuse for cake afterwards.

What was your one thing this week?
Anyone else due a pap smear that you have been putting off?
Don’t. It’s silly. Just do it.
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

  1. Well done for ticking that one off.

I had the Pap test that lasts five years late last year. My OB used to be the head of the AMA in Queensland so he tends to be quick to take up these new fandangled options. It was done during during a D and C in hospital so I was knocked out for the whole thing!

I am very excited that I can tick that of me list for another 5 years. Alleluia!

  2. I just missed out on the new Pap test so I will have it this year. I’ve just turned 50 so have added a mammogram to my list. I went along last month and the only stressful thing about it was trying to find a parking spot! It was absolutely no biggie and I was in and out in 15 minutes.

My one thing this week was to clean the oven. Last time around I had a professional company in who charged a fortune and didn’t do that good a job. And I discovered the best thing for getting the grime off the oven door is a bicarbonate and white vinegar paste left on for a couple of hours. The glass came up really well, with no scratching.

  3. I yes I get you had a post Partum Pap smear which was inconclusive
Which means it didn’t work which means another one grrrrr ?

  4. We moved into our newly renovated house in December and still need window coverings, the ripped blind in our bedroom is, frankly, an embarrassment. I’ve found myself PARALYSED by indecision. I don’t know how many quotes to get or from whom, I don’t know what I need or want but winter is coming and we’re all going to freeze to death if I don’t get it sorted.

I’d rather get a pap smear.

    • You can do it Kylie. Start with just one thing and go from there…you know what they say about eating an elephant (?!) take a bit don’t try and eat the whole thing. Well I think that’s what they say…

  5. Lisa Mckenzie says

Good on you Beth,I am quite proud that after 2 babies and one hysterectomy I need the virgin speculum….my gyno must have thought he was doing me a favour!!

  6. I ticked that one off last year. Had the most awkward doctor/as my regular doctor was away. But still so worth it!

  7. Mmmm ok good reminder its going on my list for this week. Thank you.
Today I have finalllllllly finished my gallery wall. I didn’t fathom how long it would take to spray the frames white.
Failed one thing for today (can we add this please, I feel like noting the attempted one thing you try to do but can’t due to ???). Tried taking sons laptop back to JB hi fi as faulty after 35 days. Unfortunately made the mistake of taking purchase info on screen as I had done when picking up at purchase. Sadly when returning you need to print a receipt for them. Awesome technology JB!!! Next stop curtain shop but they were out of stock of track. Curtains purchased anyway. Oh well off to Bunnings, was on my list anyway. Bunnings list only 2 items out of 4. Seriously 1 was a hinge, stood there looking at what seemed like 100 different hinges and the only hinge out of stock was the one I needed to match the rest I already have. Surely people should know we are trying to tick off one things and don’t have time to make them 2 things!!

  8. I was there last Tuesday chatting to my doctor like nothing was happening! Three letter us girls all hate but must have! We do have a duty of care to make sure all our girlfriends have this test!

  9. Eek, thank you for the reminder, I had a Pap smear last March and the results were inconclusive so I was SUPPOSED to go back…best get to it…almost a year later. Oops :-/

  10. February is my “unpleasant jobs” month. Dentist, doctor, optometrist, BAS… January has usually been spent eating too much, drinking too muc, not doing enough exercise and avoiding any form of paperwork so I figure I’m due for a little penance by February! I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say those regular visits (to the doctor) have saved me from some potentially life threatening stuff (so get back there Reen!). As my much loved girlfriends from my misspent youth used to say before a night out…cheers pap smears!
