One thing: A supercell of little annoying things

My #onething list just continually grows but this week there were so many little #onethings that I felt like I had to do my best to tackle the lot in one fell swoop. All those little things that all need doing but require their own individual trips to here or there for this or that, you know the kind of thing?

Little globes you can’t get at the supermarket. Harper’s asthma plan for School, some special glue for a couple of little jobs, that kind of thing. Honestly, it just takes up brain space having to be the person to even think of this shit don’t you think?

For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

So I wrote down a master list of all the annoying little things that were on various lists. I used the app in my phone so that whenever I was out and about I could see if I was near a shop to get one of the things, or near this or that to get them crossed off.

First off?

Doctor’s appointment for asthma action plan AND a referral for another Dr’s appointment this week. TICK.

Next?

The bastard of little globes that fit in this lamp that I had to go into 3 different shops for to get. TICK.

And then?

Glue for the seal on our door that has been hanging off for what? 6 months now? Glue. TICK. Seal fixed? TICK. Very satisfying. And while I had that glue out?

The mould around the fire place tiles that had come loose too. TICK. No more kicking my toes on bits of wood that are falling off.

Nothing big, but all sorted and best of all? Ticked off my list! GONE. Done.

What was your one thing this week?
What’s the most annoying “little” thing on your list right now? Can you do it today?
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

Comments

  1. Finally replaced the broken soap dish in the shower and something to hold the shampoo, conditioner etc. it’s only been four months. So happy ?

  2. Oh my gosh i can totally relate i have a HUGE list and the asthma plans….every year even when the plan hasn’t changed…this is on my list for the upcoming week. So satisfying to get all those little jobs ticked off xxxx

  3. I ticked a few things off this week. Tretford rug for lounge, 6 x thonet chairs (to replace the crap fake ones that keep falling over whenever a child looks at them), set up 2 x school banking accounts, Drs appointment for my general health check and a care plan for child. I’m exhausted but I feel better.

  4. I needed new socks as they were threadbare. I live in work boots on the farm and they kill socks. The socks made it to the shopping list this week and now that one thing has been taken care of. Hooray!

  5. watches ! small people and guitar and drum lessons at school, I got sick of hearing but I don’t know when that will be so I worked out when break is and am educating them forthwith, yep I fished out 3 of my watches a , lorus, a guess and a Seiko , marched right into that watch repair shop, picked out the kid friendly bands, new batteries and BOOM! girls are stoked, mum’s watches look pretty cool and now they can get to the lesson on time, well at least try to. Saves me buying the elcheapo non rebatteryable ones. Till… they are fluent in time telling then they can have a fancy smanshy one! So for $38 I got 3 watches recycled. Yay for me !! one thing rules

  6. Not wishing to be preachy but my oldest has terrible asthma (1st ever episode was intensive care following that at least 1 hospital trip per year) while on a regimented treatment plan. Last year he took up squad swimming 2-3hrs per week (not the fastest and not his favourite thing) but he has only needed ventilation once this entire year. For him short weekly swimming lessons didn’t do it but longer swimming has been amazing.

One things- new screen on door, door bell installed, 5 rooms of photos/art unpacked from boxes and now on walls, curtain rods up, weatherstrip on laundry door, 3 bags donated, horrible shade cloth contraption removed, pest spray booked and replacement tracks ordered. Lots done still more to do!!

Would have also added numbers to the house IF both numbers had their necessary included screws. Now a return trip to masters is required.

  7. Lightbulbs! Lightbulbs have been on the list for at least 8 months now, and spurred on by this blog post, today I went out specifically to buy lightbulbs. Hallelujah! Love crossing things off that bloody list!

  8. My one thing this week was getting my rings cleaned and polished. I always say “I’ll get to it” but never do, and I wear my engagement and wedding ring permanently so after almost two years they looked pretty dull. The best and most unexpected bonus was the reminder of how exciting it felt to be newly married, worth the $10 any day.
