Miscellaneous 76

Wet where you are? It’s pissing down here. I wish I could enjoy the rain however whenever it’s like this our septic tank doesn’t enjoy it and we usually end up with that flooded, a busted pump and unable to wash/use anything inside. It’s glamorous. I hope you are dry where you are.

Something entirely NOT shitty was the arrival of a special package yesterday afternoon.

I have long been lusting after a Dash & Albert rug ever since my Mum sent me a link to Sarah’s blog when we first moved down here. Based in Bowral I was lucky enough to check out their warehouse last year  and we’ve been trying to work out a way to work together ever since. Sarah wanted to send Maggie a little something and HONESTLY are you even ready for this? I gasped out loud when I unrolled it.

HAVE YOU EVER? Caps required.

Honestly, it’s the most beautiful rug I ever did see. I hope Maggie has it until she is an old lady. I know it will last that long the quality is that good. Dead set Sarah, it’s amazing.

I’ve got some happy little creatures around here.

I’m hoping to convince Sarah that one of you guys needs a high end, superior, non shitty, amazing rug too. Am I right? If you guys show enough interest I might be able to get a rug for a giveaway. You can see the entire range of their amazing stuff on their website here or Facebook here or follow on Instagram here.

Peru

Oxfam sent me through some details of a trip they are hosting next year to Peru that I wanted to share with you guys. In March next year they are hosting a trip where you can fundraise along the way and visit some of the projects that they work on.

On this amazing adventure, you’ll trek the spectacular Inca Trail to Machu Picchu—considered one of the greatest treks in the world. With time to acclimatise in Cusco, you will follow a well-defined path under the care of experienced guides. Over four days you’ll traverse high passes and explore mist-shrouded ruins. You’ll descend into verdant valleys in the shadow of dramatic mountain ranges and camp under the stars.

Concluding at Machu Picchu, you’ll experience the majesty and mysticism of this awe-inspiring ancient city. Spend a day at the ‘lost city of the Incas’ and bask in its enigmatic grandeur. As part of this adventure you’ll also explore other famous Inca ruins, including Tambomachay, Qenqo, Sacsayhuaman and Ollantaytambo.

More details of the trip are here and the hard facts on the trip being:

Dates: 6–18 March 2016
Registration fee: $770 (non-refundable)
Fundraising target: $4,000 (excludes travel)
Travel cost: $7,050, including taxes (can be fundraised)
Trip duration: 13 days
Challenge duration: 4 days
Accommodation: Twin-share in 3 star hotels and comfortable camping
Minimum age: 18 (younger ages considered on application)

What an opportunity!

Speaking of travel, my friend artist and all round creative Nat Miller recently was travelling to New York for workshops & pleasure and just published a great post on her blog of her top picks for a visit to the big apple. I still get emails all the time from people asking for ideas on where to go so I loved reading a different perspective on her visit. You can read all about it here.

Did you see the wonderful never before seen photos of Charles & Diana’s wedding that were recently published? LOVED them. I still remember that night watching the wedding on the telly in our dressing gowns staying up extra late. Mum even made Steak Diane for dinner in her honour. And a few years ago on a random trip to the Powerhouse Museum we happened across THE wedding dress that was out on tour. What a treat to see that!

Speaking of snaps here is a sneak peak of a family shoot we had done on Sunday through a reader Katherine Wilson Photography . It’s very exciting to actually BE in photos and to get a family photo of us all together? Priceless. If these little peaks are anything to go by they are going to be amazing. Can’t wait to see the rest and of course share some of them with you guys.

Did you watch the Maccachef video yet? Lots of people have which is pretty cool. I think we’re going to have a whip up another one too. Mystery {lunch} box challenge perhaps?

Now, time for me to venture out into that foul weather for the weekly shopping and a search for bloody book week costumes. I loved seeing all your pictures of your kids in their costumes that you shared on Facebook. You can check them out here.

So who wants a HOT RUG? Ammi right?
Like the idea of those Oxfam adventures? Me too!
Ever had someone come and take photos of your family?
How’s book week going at your place?

Stay dry friends x

  1. Beth!
That rug is all kinds of wonderful. Looks Cath Kidson inspired with all those gloriously blowsy roses. Lucky Maggie. What an heirloom. I would make a cup of tea and just spend the day looking at it in lieu of any external sunshine.

  2. That rug is divine and I wait with baited breath for the next instalment of Maccachef.
Remind me to tell you about the audition process over a vino one day!
    A x

  3. That rug is very pretty, I like the idea of Maggie having that when she’s old, what an heirloom! I actually got Bob (the Brother) down from its dusty hollow and sewed a costume for tomorrow’s book week parade, Toothless the Dragon, my son thought I was très clever – but I have put Bob back on the shelf for another few years. That Oxfam trip would be amazing, my sister has done the Inca Trail and went to see the Nazca Lines, she’s obviously the cool one in the family! Stay dry. P.S I can’t wait to see the Mystery Box video.

  4. OMG I’ve just popped over to Sarah’s site and the rugs are AMAZING! There goes my budget!!!
I love rainy days, but remember all too well the house before this one… even a spit of rain sent the sewerage, other people’s sewerage euwww!, bubbling up through our loos. xx
Ps. Miss Mags is adorable. xx

  5. HAHA, I bloody love that video !! Cracked me up ? – the sad things is, you really are a good cook and your video actually sums up the extent of my culinary skills. He he. Keep them coming! …and I’d absolutely love one of those amazing rugs – I’ve just built a new house and have been lusting after rugs, alas the kitty has run dry. Count me in on that front !

  6. love, love, love that rug. I got a big laugh out of Maccachef – a mystery box would be hilarious.

  7. Always need a rug! They are really beautiful. I bet it does not have that eye itching smell of an Ikea one 😉

Maccachef – well I am often a bit eye-rolly about people trying to be funny on the internet. That was funny. Like laugh out loud funny!

Rain has stopped in Sydney and I feel terrible for loving the storm last night when I found out that a friends garage collapsed with their brand new car inside… The rain was incredible in the east.

  8. Rug me up Beth! That rug is to die for and I’d love a chance to win one

  9. Oh my giddy aunt-that rug! Just beautiful isn’t it?!

Oh do go on and do another Maccachef video please pretty please- so funny! Made me smile and giggle at the end of a tiring day:)

Oxfam adventure- yes please! Sounds amazing:)

Family photos in my home- nope but I’d love to.

Book week- iiiieeeee save me! We are spied to dress the kids in something dr Seuss- master 5 has settled on “thing 2”. Went shopping last night for supplies. Do you recon I could find red pants of any description? Big fat no. Not happening. So now what? Eeek

  10. Thank you Beth. I really mean it. I absolutely love your blog! You remind me of me (except I wish I was a clean freak!) You are real. You feel like a friend and write like you know us all and we are sitting having a cup of tea (and something naughty to eat) while you tell a story.
Mags is gorgeous!!!!!!! And that rug……my oh my. What a lucky Mags to have that forever.
My only regret is I didn’t find your blog sooner. Thank you for putting a smile on my dial every day 🙂

  11. Wow! You’ve had a big and beautiful week? what a fabulous and pretty gift, that rug is a work of art. Great family pics too, something we’ve never done but I might consider now after seeing your very natural looking ones x

  18. Gorgeous!! Love the rug, they have a new facebook fan!

Look forward to seeing the family pics too!

  19. Absolutely love the rug – so gorgeous! I’d love something like that at our place. I’m looking for some amazing unusual cushions – do you have any recommendations?

Also loved the Maccachef video – so funny. Especially loved the follow up text at the end, so good. Well done guys.

We’re in Canberra & it’s pouring here too. We stayed in yesterday but were a little stir crazy today so rugged up, put the rain cover on the pram & headed out for lunch with the husband. Totally worth the resulting frizzy hair 🙂

    • So many cushions out there – depends on the kind of pattern you are after. You know Target and Kmart have some greater ones now? Try Aura Home, Bed, bath & Table for a start too 🙂

  20. That rug is amazing but I just know with four kids, a dog, a cat & four chickens who think they can wander in whenever they bloody well please, it’d just get too messed up & I’d cry & yell & stamp my feet while screaming ” WHY CANT ANYTHING STAY FUCKING NICE AROUND HERE?”

  21. That rug is exquisite, I’m having far too nice a time looking at all the other lovely rugs on their site too!

  22. You need to do a mystery (lunch) box challenge. You have 10 minutes, 3 slices of bread, a carrot, 2 slices of devon, and 7 sultanas and you need to produce to bento boxes!

  23. Well my dear Beth, it appears we might have to organise a give-away soon!
    WATCH THIS SPACE!
PS Can I pinch those gorgeous images 🙂

  24. Love the rug, the website had some amazing designs. The Maccachef video was excellent 🙂

  25. Sue McCarney says

    Rug. Love.
    Video. Love.
    Mags. Love.
? But not in that order?

  26. Look at Maggie! “Hey, check me out on my new rug!”

  27. Nel McIlveen says

THAT RUG. Am considering abandoning my own house and moving straight into the Dash & Albert website. I could live there, really.
    Le Sigh.

  28. That rug is utterly divine xx
Loved the Maccachef video – shared it all around social media. I can’t wait to see you and hubby in a Pressure Cook challenge.

  29. Oh. My. That rug.
It’s sure to be something that Maggie will treasure forever. Lucky girl!!
I’ve only found your blog recently and I think it’s fabulous!
Thank you for sharing pieces of your world with all of us x

  30. Wow, that rug looks gorgeous.

  31. That rug is just stunning. Serious rug envy over here.

  32. ME ME ME (caps lock required!!)
    LOVE that rug.
When my son stops piddling on my current rug I am going to buy one!
I’ve been checking out the Oxfam bike riding tours. Have been meaning to contact them and ask them to arrange an easy one :-0
Its wet here too (I’m further south), we just might get flooded in.
But I don’t mind, gives me an excuse to wear my leopard print gum boots everywhere.

  33. Wowzers! That is the most beautiful rug ever. Bed of roses (I just checked it out on their website). Made me think of the Bon Jovi song. Divine. & Divine.

  34. Just putting my hat in the ring for the possible ants fart chance of winning one of those Dash & Albert rugs! Divine! I don’t think I’d ever be able to afford one otherwise.
