BabyMac Book Club: Mothers and Daughters

Time for round 3 of book club and this one was most definitely NOT going to be about murder. I really had no real idea what I was going to choose…I meant to go into a book shop and look up one that was recommended but I didn’t and I meant to really research some great new books but I didn’t. I was in Big W buying birthday presents for Harps who turns 5 on Monday and I literally walked into the book section, looked around, saw this had a sticker on it saying they would give me my money back if I didn’t love it, turned to page one to see the opening line which was ” Oh, for fucks sake, Morag!” and threw it into my trolley.

HOW IT WORKS

We chose a book (you can send me suggestions at any time so I will go to you guys with a short list and we can vote…or maybe I will just choose!). We have 5 weeks to read the book (I was going to make it 3 weeks but we all know that’s not going to work). Then we come on and have a chat about it, I’ll ask some questions and we can comment on here as well as on Facebook (I think it’s an easy platform for throwing around quick ideas/conversations) which we can do over a glass of wine on our couches. We can all pretend we are sitting around my fire if we close our eyes…

#BABYMACBOOKCLUB ROUND THREE

I have chosen Kylie Ladd’s MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS. Hopefully no murder, an easy read that I can get through and enjoy and another wonderful Australian author.

NEXT STEPS

Buy the book (for real or on your e-reader device) and get reading! There will be a post book wrap up virtual book club here on the blog on Wednesday 26th November. You can leave your comments on the post and we will aim to have a Facebook chat that night from 8pm (AEST) so pour your wine and get ready for a natter. Send me through any suggestions for books in the meantime and we can work out what the next one will be. I can’t promise Proust but I hope we can get through some good reads that will get us back into books instead of being lazy (like me) and spending all my time online at night.

Hope you can join in! Any questions, just let me know…oh and use the hashtag #babymacbookclub if you’re that way inclined. Happy Reading!

Comments

  1. Looks fantastic, about to order. Loving making the time to read again

  2. Sound great!! Love an easy read with no murder!! Can’t cope with anything that’s slightly disturbing! Am disturbed enough just getting through the 6pm news these days! Oh and i love supporting Aussie talent. Good choice. If you wrote a book (which you should, girl!), I would buy it!! Enough said!

  3. So cool Beth.
I have always wanted to actually do the the ‘Book Club’ thing.
Thank gawd you’re not as picky as all the other clubs I’ve tried to join.
    Woo hoo!
I’m off to my local Dymmocks to buy a copy.

  4. Have just purchased on my Kindle. I’m about to head off to an exam and I was looking for something to indulge in tomorrow!

    • Hope the exam went OK Ange x

      • Thanks Beth! Survived the exam and am now getting back to the to do house. Feeling like we might almost have this place set up after 3 months of being here.

I demolished the book over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It brought back a lot of memories about being a teenage girl and I have to say I am glad I got through my teenage years without social media – I suspect I would not have liked it them as much as I do now.

And as a 40 year old with 2 boys (4 and almost 6), I found a lot of the Mother’s discussions interesting as well, although I don’t have close group of mothers like that group.

Looking forward to hearing what others think and discussing more but don’t want to give anything away right now.

  5. OK, so that is an awesome first line for a book. Just sayin’.

  6. I haven’t participated in your book clubs yet but I think this one is right up my alley. Having a 15 year old, (almost) 13 year old and ten year old girl I think this book is right where I’m at right now….who am I kidding, I was sold on that first line!

  7. Count me in! I have about 6 books on the go at all times and never seem to finish one, no matter how great they are. There’s no better reason to finish a book than having ladies to chat about it with over a glass of wine (or tea)!

  8. Ive picked up this book many times…what a great excuse to actually buy it!!

  9. I’m in!
I just blogged about it too. Love the sound of this book Beth.

  10. Looks good. I have written it down so I can have a look when I’m at the shops. I need to have a real book, it’s just not the same on an electronic thingy

  11. Lisa Mckenzie says

That looks like a great read!

  12. I’d love a no -fiction book next time.

  13. Linda Jenkins says

I am just finishing the 8th book in the Outlander series and am wondering what to read next so perfect. As Mum to 2 grown up daughters aged 19 and 22 I am sure I will enjoy this one.

  14. Sounds fantastic, I too am a book club virgin. Just LOLed at that opening line so this looks like the perfect book (and club) for potty-mouthed me.

  15. This will be my first book club in AGES. So excited! xx
