BabyMac Book Club: Dark Places

I can’t tell you how proud I was that I actually knocked off a book in non-holiday season for Round one of #babymacbookclub. Thanks to all of you who joined in and read the book, left a thoughtful comment and then came on over and had a chat with me on Facebook. I was so excited to move from one comment to another – it was like moving around my room and having a chat and drink with you all so thank you! Now it’s time for round 2…and I don’t know about you guys but I need 5 weeks. I just do. Life seems to get in the way and I was up reading until 11pm the night before like a bad student. So 5 weeks it is and let me tyell you, 5 weeks goes like *that*.

HOW IT WORKS

I chose a book. We have a month 5 weeks to read the book, then I’ll write up my review/thoughts/comments and I’ll ask some questions and you can comment either here on the blog or as well as on Facebook (I think it’s an easy platform for throwing around quick ideas/conversations) which we can do over a glass of wine on our couches. We can all pretend we are sitting around my fire if we close our eyes…

#BABYMACBOOKCLUB ROUND TWO

I have chosen (as suggested by local friend of mine and part of my IRL book club Annie) Gillian Flynn’s DARK PLACES. I read her book Gone Girl when we went to Fiji last year and as soon as I was into the story I was swept up for days until I was done. Luckily we were staying in a resort because I don’t think anyone would have been fed otherwise.  It should be filled with suspense, some dark undertones but hopefully it will get us all swept away.

NEXT STEPS

Buy the book (for real or on your e-reader device) and get reading! There will be a post book wrap up virtual book club here on the blog on Tuesday 14th October. You can leave your comments on the post and we will aim to have a Facebook chat that night from 8pm (AEST) so pour your wine and get ready for a natter. Send me through any suggestions for books in the meantime and we can work out what the next one will be. Book by book we will tackle this laziness that has overtaken my reading…time to get offline and back into some paperback.

Hope you can join in! Any questions, just let me know…oh and use the hashtag #babymacbookclub if you’re that way inclined. Happy Reading!

Done! Downloaded it to my iPad in just a few seconds (it’s actually a bit scary how quickly this happens)
Loved the last one and this looks good too. Gone Girl sucked me in big time so hopefully Dark Days won’t disappoint 🙂

  9. I am on it.. just downloaded now and cannot wait to start!!

A suggestion for one of the future book clubs could be “The Opposite of Loneliness” by Marina Keegan. It is a collection of stories writing by a Yale graduate who tragically died shortly after her graduation… she was a pretty amazing writer.

So pleased to be in a book club! yay!

  10. I’ve read her two other books and they were so fantastic, I couldn’t put them down and all other facets of life got pushed to the side. I’m sure this will be just as good!

  11. Just downloaded both…. I’m heading o/s next week.I have 8 new books to read! Do you think that’s enough?:))

  12. Lisa Mckenzie says

I will try Beth ,I really will.

  13. What are the chances?? I literally started reading this book this morning! Will be joining in for sure.

  14. Ohhh, I’m struggling to finish this! Just can’t get into it. Hoping it goes off with a bang at the end…

    • I’m with you Jane – started off with a bang and now I haven’t gone back to it in weeks. Next week I better get my act together (well before Tuesday that is!!)

      • I’m going to try and crack through it tonight, in the hopes of making the Facebook chat on Tuesday. (I missed the last one) May I please suggest “Leaving Time” by Jodi Picoult for a future book? She is one of my favourite authors, and I have been waiting on this new book released this week for months!
