Chocolate box braille

I got some lovely Christmas presents last week but I have to say my very favourite was this one:

Choc 2

A tin of PROPER UK Quality Street chocolates. ALL FOR ME. I was quite beside myself. As a little girl I used to get a box of Cadbury Hazelnut Swirls in my santa sack each year and I knew that it was the one day of the year that I could go to town eating them. No rules. No asking. These were MINE. And Mum let me either eat the lot and get sick, or space them out over time, savouring each one as the day or even days went on. Of course I usually just scoffed the lot and got sick, but each year there they were. MY chocolates.

This tin took me about 30 years when I got them and I was quite annoyed that I now had a family of my own that I had to share them with. They were used as bribes to get children out of the pool, or their hair brushed, or even going to sleep (what? I never said I was a good mother). I sat with some of my favourites: the green mercedes as I call them. The fudge rectangle ones. The blue coconut bounty knock off ones. I was THRILLED to discover that Daisy was a fan of the orange creams (eeeeeew) and little Harper, well she’s not fussy when jot comes to food. She just needs to eat it. ALL of it.

My sister popped up to the farm for a few days and she brought with her a box of Roses. The dodgier, cheaper, Australian version of the Quality Street. I was excited that the pressure was now off my box of QS (not that I had shared them at ALL with the wider family) and they were whacked on the table after dinner. There was no need for the map referral here, oh no, I whacked my hand in that box, had a good feel and grabbed that Hazelnut swirl, my beloved childhood chocolate but sheer TOUCH and had that in the mouth quicker than you can say “why do they bother with Turkish Delights in these boxes?”

Choc 1

Can you do chocolate box brail or do you need to refer to the map?
What was your favourite chocolate as a kid?
Does anyone REALLY like the orange cream? You can have all mine!

Comments

  1. Quality Street have been on sale for $10, yes, half price! So that is what the specialist teachers at school got this year ๐Ÿ™‚ And I can totally do Braille. I had a serious sugar intolerance brought on by medication as a baby, so when I was allowed to eat chocolate, I went sick! And got sick lol.

  2. I always go for my favourites. Bugger everyone else. When it comes to chocolate, it’s every man for himself…

  3. I have been eyeing up the QS Box in Coles.. easey peasey on the brail, that said I will eat any of them so no real need.. you can send my the turkish and the orange.. if it contains sugar I like it ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I like the orange creams… And I savour Turkish Delight!

  5. I have been reading your blog for a while and I love it! I am probably a bit behind on blog etiquette however I would like to say that I made the corn fritters today to go with the Banjo ham that we have and it scored very well! There was some leftover guacamole from last night’s nachos so I saw an opportunity to so something different. It has voted so well, it will be going into the favourite recipe folder.
Anyway, my reason for being here is that I am a savoury girl through and through. Antipasto, mini quiches (showing my age), biscuits, cheese, dips….savoury all the way. When it comes to chocolate, my Husband and son are fanatical and I am lucky to get a look in (which is ok) except that I don’t mind the Orange Creams, Strawberry Creams and my absolute fave….Turkish Delight! They don’t eat these ones…
PS If this comes through twice, I was having a few small issues registering.

  6. We picked up a tin of QS for $7. Love after Xmas sales. Now we need to Hide them from the kids.

  7. Love love love the orange creams, then the strawberry creams… Oh my…. I’ll trade you, I have a whole tin sitting in the kitchen sans orange and strawberry creams.

  8. I love me some Quality Street. The caramel sticks and pink fudge ones are my favourites, but I don’t like orange cream or Turkish Delight (when I was little I used to feed them to the dog).

  9. Oh I love the Turkish delights. But I never touch the orange creams.

  10. Lisa Mckenzie says

Yes I love orange creams, peppermint strawberry and Turkish delight and those caramel swirls and the plain ones, you can have my nut ones I don’t like nuts!

  11. My husband really misses the QS at Christmas. That and proper Irish tea. But guess what? Next year we are spending Christmas in Ireland!! Actually that would be this year….. So I promise I will bring you back a tin, just for you.
Oh and my favourite is also the hazelnut swirl, no map required ๐Ÿ˜‰

Exciting! That is a deal. Can I bring him back some tea when we are there in June? Just let me know the name and I will bring it back x

      • I believe he would even drive 5 hours to the highlands for that tea! It’s Lyons Green Label. His Mum is arriving here in two weeks and will bring us a big plastic zip lock bag of it which lasts around 3 months. It looks very suspicious in that plastic bag in her suitcase and she always spends extra time going through customs ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. I grew up in the UK and absolutely LOVED QS! The green triangles I remember well, so they must have been my fave. It’s probably been 25 years since I’ve had a QS chocolate. Now I want some!

  13. Sharing the QS is not fun. It just isn’t. x
