Exhale

This morning we have packed the car, threatened the children (again) that they better stop whinging or Santa will NEVER come, thrown some swimmers in, hidden presents galore and headed up the mighty Pacific Highway with every other bastard in NSW heading in the direction of the farm.

After days/weeks/months of craziness I can’t wait to just stop. Do nothing. Read. Sleep. Eat. Drink. Maybe even run occasionally and officially go into holiday mode for a while.

We are going to have a simple family Christmas. Just us and Rob’s Dad/step Mum. A few visitors a couple of days after that. The girls really don’t want for anything up there (and why would they?) time with their parents and grandparents, trips in the back of a ute, some fishing, LOTS of swimming, lots of morning/afternoon teas, reading and hopefully lots of sleeping!

I’m still going to be kicking around on here. Maybe. I’m not sure. I’m playing it all by ear – it’s best not to make too many plans this time of year I think. I do love to do cooking up there so I might share some of that. I do like reading, might share some recommendations. Who knows? You can check in on Facebook or Instagram if you want to see what we are up to.

I do hope that you all have the most wonderful day on Wednesday. Christmas can be such a crazy time. Manic and exhausting and over the top. But for me it’s always the best time of the whole year. Watching your kids drink in the pure delight and magic of the day, sharing a meal with people who you love, taking the time to stop and be grateful for all the simple things in life that are the most important: our health, our very good fortune, our families and friends having people to love and to be loved ourselves. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. May your children not be ungrateful buggers. May your turkey not be dry. May your champagne glass ALWAYS be filled. May your sleep be unbroken.

May your days be merry and bright.

Merry Christmas friends x

Ok I have a question. .. has turkey always been part of the Aussie Christmas? As a kid I never heard of anyone having turkey and now it’s all over the place. We recently went to USA and celebrated Thanksgiving and that was the first time I’d really eaten roast Turkey.

I don’t think so?! I got a great recipe from my brother a few years ago that is so goddamn good I will make it every Christmas SO HELP ME GOD. When it’s good, it’s very VERY good. Merry Christmas!

  11. You had me at “Exhale”. Love it. xx

  12. How I wish my in-laws place was like that. Whenever we go there I am stressed to the eyeballs. Thankfully this year we are HOME. Less stressful but it always seems so rushed and crazy, perhaps because school doesn’t finish until so late. It really needs to finish a week before.

next year I want to plan for a destination christmas. Just us, somewhere tropical, cocktails, kids club, no one else to place pressure on where to be and what to do. bliss.

Merry christmas to you and your gorgeous fam.

  13. Merry Christmas, BabyMac – from my family to yours xo

PS> Get the fake santa call app on your phone. It saved my sanity in the last 24 hours, especially when trying to get the 3yo dressed for childcare for the last time this morning!

  16. Merry Christmas Beth, Rob, Daisy and Harper! May your days be filled with sunshine and your nights twinkling with stars xx

Merry Christmas to you Beth and all your family. I hope all your Christmas wishes come true. Our Christmas will be quiet up at Karen’s place (she had a knee replacement last Tuesday) late afternoon. it’s at her place so she can rest if she needs to but she is doing very well. It will be a simple cold meal with everyone bringing food so no hassles. While she was in hospital I gave her the 3 little tubes that were in that airline pack you sent me….face, lip and skin cream I think they were.
You are so fortunate in celebrating Christmas on a farm. Very envious. lol

  25. Merry xmas! Thanks for keeping me entertained throughout the year.
I’m starting a new family tradition this year. Trifle for breakfast! I mean why do we have to wait all day to eat dessert after we have filled up on lunch, when we can eat it first thing. May as well get the sugar hit over and done with first thing…
    Merry xmas!

  26. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, Beth. x
