Beth says: Buy a bottle of Sancerre!

San who? Sancerre! That’s what!

S2

Said in your best French accent (sahn sair or as I like to say it more like sonne sair) these French wines come from Sancerre in the eastern part of the Loire Valley (like most French wines that come from whole regions like champagne, or Bordeaux etc) and are similar to a Sauvignon blanc in drinking style. I am not one to understand or embrace wine talk, but they are usually described as being bone dry but highly aromatic. For me? I just think they are DEAD SET DELICIOUS.

I can’t remember when or how I got onto them, but after a good bottle I was sold. I embraced the Sancerre in NY whereby I ordered a MAGNUM of the stuff at lunch at Balthazar and every chance I read a wine list that has a good selection of French wines in there I will try for one.

They are not in abundance at Dan Murphys, but they are there. The wine above PIERRE BREVIN can be grabbed for $18.99 a bottle. And the one below PASCAL JOLIVET is a bottle I discovered at Bistro Felix the last time I went for dinner. AMAZING! And a little more expensive, but well worth a look if you had a special occasion coming up. You can grab that for $38.99 a bottle which I can tell you is a shit load cheaper than what I paid in a fancy pants restaurant.

This is a great spring and summer wine and one which I hope you will embrace. Get yourself a bottle and have a crack!

What are you drinking at the moment that’s good?

I went to a french restaurant recently and said I liked dry whites and we had a sancerre! I agree with you 100% I adore them too (ok I’ve only had one…but I know I love them LOL)

I do love me a sancerre – particularly one served at Bistro Felix! However, in the fridge for tonight is a Petit Chablis, because I darned well deserve it x

Malbac wine. It’s not merlot or cab sav or whatevs. It’s just malbac and it is NICE.

  7. Beth, I love you for this. We have one, ONE, yes that’s right ONE bottle shop in Qatar. The selection of Aussie and NZ Sav B’s is minimal and expensive but the Frenchies are in abundance (read that anyway you wish). I’m off to look for a Sancerre next week (when I go for my monthly grog purchase) at the one bottle shop. YES, ONE!!!

  8. I will try some when I am in the Loire Valley in the next couple of weeks.

  9. Perfect! I’m cooking mussels tonight doused in chilli and vino – so this will be perfect! xx (runs to dan murphy’s) xx
