A good lie down

Jesus, this week has been a little depressing. Sure, if you can just sit outside in the sunshine and tend to your garden, things are looking OK, but if you are a normal, functioning adult, who has to be half aware of what is going on in the world, then you might be feeling a little like me: in need of a bex and a good lie down.

insaneW

Chemical warfare, possible counter attacks, endless politicial shenanigans, twerking, people eating or not eating sugar, wearing make up or not and so on and so forth. If you focus too much on it all, you wouldn’t be able to function at all would you?

I don’t know who I am going to vote for in 2 weeks time. I’ve contemplated a donkey vote, but would good is there wasting my right and freedom of democracy? Last night I kept thinking that Clive fucking Palmer was making the most sense out of everyone. What on earth does THAT say?! This morning I did the Compass Vote thingy on the ABC website to help me make my decision. Tomorrow I plan on seeing all the local candidates at the local bowlo to actually see what they have to say. This ridiculous Presidential style election campaign has us believe that we are voting for people, not parties. I have NO idea what to do and it seems that the options are pretty depressing too. I hope I can get my head around it all and actually try to get some ideas and solutions for myself – the media reporting makes the whole thing even more confusing.

The chemical warfare story and atrocities in Syria are beyond comprehension.

I am despairing over Miley. Why on EARTH I am even thinking about it 2 days after her having a piece of herself with one of the Coles oversized hands says a lot. That cute song that I loved, that Robyn Thicke and me thinking he was just being cheeky and fun, well now he just looks like a creepy old man in badly fitting striped pants. If my daughters saw that…what would I say? How do you explain it?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am going out to the garden to firmly place my head in the dirt.

Is it any wonder I watch so much Real Housewives of whatever and bad reality TV?
Any ideas on who you are going to vote for?
Feeling disillusioned about most things in your news feed?

We’re going to be OS for the election so did a postal vote last week. Talk about disillusion. We’re still enrolled to vote back home in Victoria, so I don’t even live in the same state as my electorate (naughty naughty I know, it’s on the to do list). I literally sat down and stared blankly at the paper. In the end I voted the same guy in, because frankly I think he’s done an alright job. An alright job? Shouldn’t someone do a really good job? Hum. Don’t even get me started on voting below the line, WHO does that?! My silly husband did last time, frigging had to wait for him FOREVER to finish. I’m running away to the jungle of Papua New Guinea, away from Kevin and Tony and Clive and Christine and EVERYONE! Good riddance.

  2. I thought I was the only one who thought like that about Clive Palmer! Phew! I actually said to my husband last night ‘Clive Palmers policies actually make a bit of sense’. Am I crazy?! I did the vote compass thing too – I think it’s a great tool.

I know I thought I was the only one who felt like that! Nope no ideas as yet who i’m going to vote for.I am over everything at the moment xx Enjoy the sun Beth.

  4. Oh man, I have no idea who I’m voting for. On one hand, it doesn’t matter because I’m moving to Canada next Easter anyway. On the other hand… I’d be leaving behind a lot of people I care about and I don’t want to feel partially responsible for leaving them in a shit-storm. *sigh*

This whole Miley Cyrus thing has made me even more thankful that we don’t watch tv. I have the internet, that’s enough exposure I think.

And Syria… Oh god, Syria. I don’t even have any words.

  5. I have to say it one of the few times I’m glad I’m not a citizen yet and don’t have to vote. The two muppets that we have to chose between are a joke and I am so over the adverts I am close to boycotting TV till it’s over. It’s like a divorced couple trying to impress their child with gifts while bitching about the other parent. Not cool guys, just tell us the reality of what you will be able to do instead of blowing smoke up our asses.

And Miley, don’t even get me started on that!

  6. Approach it from another angle and decide who you don’t want to vote for and put them last, and vote below the line for the Senate candidates.

Last night I actually got a call from one of those poll people asking a lot of questions about the election and who I was going to vote for and why. It really got me thinking about what you have just said, why is our election turning into an American style Election? Why are we so focused on personalities instead of parties and their policies. Most of the questions I was asked on the phone were about Kevin and Tony and what I thought of them personally, not what I thought of their Party polices. The whole thing has become such a media mess I’m feeling very confused and disillusioned with all of it. xToni

  8. With you on all of the above today. Thankfully the weather is gorgeous and I have been out and about between meetings and a lunch catch up to be in amongst it.

Even what I thought was a good funny of a Snickers outdoor ad, which I have just tried to find online and post to give you a laugh, wasn’t actually an original but the Australian guys have just updated the US ads… bummed as I thought it was so clever ( http://creativecriminals.com/print/snickers-dont-vote-hungry/).

Time for more happy inducing Vit D I think.

I struggle too. It will be very interesting to listen to all the candidates. I’ve found our local member very impressive, hardworking and decent. Alas the same cannot be said for his party. I just want capable and compassionate politicians (and politics!). Is that too much?

  10. Not being an Aussie resident I’m not voting thank god!

Living in the Middle East the situation in Syria has concerned me greatly for a while. It’s so tragic and so precarious. I think we all should be concerned about what will happen next.

As for Miley, eww. Thankfully I’m travelling and have missed all that.

The world is mad & it hurts me head hence why I avoid the nightly news now. I too done the compass vote thing because I am confused to buggery for the first time in my voting life. Can’t wait for it all to be over!

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Bring on the 8th September! At least we might be able to get a cake from a cake stall on the day…

      • Reannon Hope says

Haha my 10 year old wants to come with me for the bacon & egg rolls. We don’t get cake but I wish we did!

  12. MotherDownUnder says

Thank goodness I can’t vote! Permanent residency has its perks!
As for Miley, why do women have to prance around and pretend to be all sexy while men get to have their beer bellies hanging out of ugly suits?

  13. ahoy.jenni says

Policies ! Focus on policy not personality. Look at the areas that matter to you like education, health’ NBN …that’s how I weigh up who I’m voting for, I don’t give a flying fuck about the personality of either, just who is going to deliver what I need for my family.
BTW I did the vote compass things too and got really surprised by the result, kinda shocked me actually!
Afraid I have to put my head in the sand about Syria, can’t bear to see/hear about it…

  14. The Miley controversy made me laugh, I honestly don’t know what kind of dance they expected with lyrics like ‘the way you grab me, must want to get nasty’….a foxtrot?!!! And I just hate how all the hate on the internet was thrown at Miley – yes attention seeking nonsense which sends out the wrong message to young girls, but the show had producers, there would have been rehearsals – someone signed off on it.

  15. Don’t start me! Thanks for Vote Compass thingy – confirmed my suspicions.

  16. Kylie Gardner says

I don’t watch the news. It makes me sick.

In very important news, I wanted you to know that after catching up on OTBF I have had that Flake commercial jingle in my head all night. So thanks for that!
