Miscellaneous 17

Fact: flowers in vases will improve your mood and make your house feel more like a home. See? All these jonquils and early cheers are now around, are cheap as chips and smell lovely. That is, of course, unless you can’t stand the smell.

You all know my thoughts on one pot cooking right? I love it. I endorse it. I embrace it. Saw this on Martha Stewart and thought, oh my goodness ONE POT PASTA THAT COOKS THE SAUCE AND BOILS THE PASTA TOGETHER. Has anyone done this? Apparently you whack it all in, and by the time the water has cooked away you are left with creamy, al dente pasta that is completely coated and delicious. Have you ever?! There are a whole heap of other one pot wonders here. Thanks Martha!

Here are two blogs that I have been reading:
Fork and Fiction is a blog written by a pair of friends, Mums and writers (one in the Northern Hemisphere and one in the Southern) and features their two favourite pastimes – eating and writing. What’s not to love?
She Sows Seeds is written by Emma who leaves on a legit farm with her farmer husband. I love her photos and quite frankly, her! Check out her wedding too – it’s like out of those American bridal blogs…amazing!

Yesterday I trotted out a $19 top found in Big W Kempsey last week. How good does it look? It’s going to get a work out, that much I know is true. I also need to talk about that necklace, it’s from Alexandra Redmond who makes some fabulous creations. This is heavy, well made, interesting and unique and was so reasonably priced. As for TV make up, well DEAR LORD, I just can’t quit it. I asked about the gloss, it was a DJ’s home brand one that is no longer available, which is sad. The difference, I think, is that while I would just trot out a bold lip in pink or red, they then put a similar coloured gloss over the top to take things to another level. Sigh…

Yes! Love your fashion, Beth. Couldn’t find that Blondie top. How good is Big W? I bought some elasticated Capri pants from there and a Peter Morrisey top and get asked about it all the time! Makes me look high brow without the Price Tag! Thanks for the heads up on the necklace – always love learning about new labels.

    P.S – I think your Australia’s answer to Martha Stewart πŸ˜‰ xx

Flowers – a weekly must in our house (if my husband remembers to pick them up on the way home – or I will make a friendly phone call to remind him – kitchen bench MUST HAVE)
Loving all your hot tips and recommendations – one pot wonder looks like it will be making an appearance on my menu tomorrow night.
    Thanks x

  3. Imma put one of those Alexandra Redmond necklaces on my birthday wishlist. Oh yes I am!

  4. I love Jonquils, I currently have Lilies on my table. I love One Pot Wonders – slow cooker is a handy bit of equipment! Yes, both kids were put into time out on Monday for being feral to each other. They had to stay in their room for 30 minutes and think how they could be nicer to each other, they then had to tell me what they could do to be nicer and then spent the remainder of the 30 minutes with a book – worked a treat!

The fighting these holidays has been something else. Not to mention the physical violence towards each other….crazy!

  5. I LOVE fresh flowers and they last ages in Melbourne because it’s cold and damp. School holidays are balls for me… too many children in all the cafes I work in! πŸ˜‰

I love a good one pot wonder.
Especially a pasta one pot wonder…I might try this for dinner as this dreary Brisbane weather is making me crave warm carbs.

You look great! TV suits you!

  7. my die!! i just love these posts – the ramblings about nothing really are the easiest, and quite often, the funniest. most endearing bev! p.s. as if i am not trotting out martha’s one pot pasta!

  8. Love misc posts! Much like my thought process as a whole. Gosh! You look just fab. I’ve tried the one pot pastas-the italianish one and meh. It tasted a bit pasty BUT I’m going to try a couple of the others. These could be lifesavers this fall. The husband has been home the past two weeks and I’m kinda liking all the crap that he has gotten done around the house. Might have been due to my freakout about too much stuff in the house and his fear I would just toss everything while I’m on hols until September and he’s not home. C:|

Thank you Jane. Between the make up and the instagram filter…it would be hard to take a bad shot! πŸ™‚

  9. My one pot pasta wonder involves a pressure cooker, and 8 minutes cooking time. Deeelicious pasta, in the sauce, one easy peasy meal. Score!!! Loving the TV make up look Beth, love that top too!

  10. Beth, I love your ‘Miscellaneous’ posts! I so agree that flowers can lift your mood and always have some in our home, jonquils are my favorites, I just adore their smell. I also love a one pot dinner, nothing else says comfort quite the same does it?!

  11. Funniest episode yet of the three of you yesterday. OMG you got to touch that gorgeous man!

I love that you said you didn’t know about the over-sharing parenting thing. I’m such an over-sharer!

Love that you shared blogs your reading, that’s how I found you! Someone shared you. I want Emma’s house….and farm…oh it looks just lovely! I could bake a million apple pies and walk around in gumboots and have flowing curtains that breeze through my open french doors. That’s the beauty of blogs. You get to escape to someone else’s dream for a moment xx

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

I still can’t believe that I get to touch that man either!

    • Emma Steendam says

Oh dear Miram, is that what it seems like?! SNORT!
Well, you are welcome to come wander about our farm anytime and bake me some apple pies…actually I do wear gumboots an awful lot…and plans are a’foot for a french door addition to the kitchen…

  12. Yahoo! Fork and Fiction features in your brilliant patchwork post! Better than a quilt it’s…miscellaneous. Love the top too, btw. And the TV makeup. Damn, I need a makeup artiste to pop over to my joint… Hannah x

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

We all need make up artists, all the time. And cooks, cleaners, personal assistants, nannies…

  13. Emily Webster says

Thank you for the link to the one pot pasta! It sounds delicious and too easy to be true! Just added it to my meal plan for next week!!

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Let me know how you get on with it…intrigued by it. Good luck!

      • Emily Webster says

Cooking this tonight… but adding some heritage breed free range bacon to the mix for a little something something. I’ll let you know how it goes πŸ™‚

Sitting here, awaiting the farmer husband to come home for once in his life (looooong hours are not in the ideal-lifestyle-fairytale that I portray, I basically don’t see my husband in daylight!) reading, scrolling, pinning, reading, blah blah blah, sip from wine glass, scrolling…. AUDIBLE GASP! Look at you and your blog spruiking of mine. Thanks lady, and yes oh dear lord I need me some TV make-up! The bold lip I can not for the life of me master, I think I look like some sort of maniacal clown?! Or a little girl smearing her mum’s makeup around?! Oh dear… I watched yesterday and thought you looked ‘fresh’, if I could use one word, very fresh faced, loved the top, hair’s looking a treat. And the Kris Smith snuggles at the end, stop it. Em x

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

      You stop it. x

      • Emma Steendam says

Oh and meant to say I’ve had that one pot pasta thingo pinned for yonks, haven’t done it of course (standard pinterest behaviour). But I do love a risotto in the oven where I have no dishes. No dishwasher household here, first house we’ve ever lived in without and these gen y’ers are NOT COPING!

  15. How cute are you?! Jonquils – yes. One pot pasta – yes, I’ve done a bolognaise penne one and many times a penne pancetta lentil potato chilli one – super comfort food. Another fave I made last night is similar to this one pot slow roast lamb shoulder (used rolled) and bean (used cannellini) dish. So good. http://www.easyliving.co.uk/recipes/main-courses/slow-cooked-lamb-shoulder

  16. Lisa Mckenzie says
