Craft Nemesis

There are a few parts of raising small children that I do not like. OK, I’m sure there are more, but these 3 come to mind: Going to the fucking park. Play doh and CRAFT. Lucky for me I can usually avoid the last 2, the park not so much. At the start of these holidays Bree from Me and my two guys (who is a patient and kind CRAFTY Mother) sent me an email seeing if she could send the girls some craft to do. Now this! I could do. OUTSOURCED CRAFT. And even better? My Mum was visiting last night so this morning I could even outsource the execution of craft.

Now THIS I can do.

And so can you! Look: ONLINE TUTORIAL. Thanks Bree, you had 3 ladies entertained for 45 mins this morning, and for that? I am eternally grateful.

What gene did you miss out on? I missed the craft one.

  1. The definition of craft: To send normal mothers insane!
To glitter, the glue, the paint…..aaaaaaaarhhhhhh!

  2. GourmetGirlfriend says

I have taken my lads to our park every single day this week.
    I don’t even know who I am anymore…….
it is possible I hate the park more than you. for realz.
is it some sort of achievement, or some may say epic failure, that I haven’t pushed one of my five boys on the swing at the park ever?

EVER? YOU WIN. That is the best thing I have ever heard. Is that why you kept having so many children? To outsource the swing pushing? I LOVE YOU.

  3. Bree Di Mattina says

Yay glad you liked it! And you are very cheeky outsourcing the execution!

  4. MotherDownUnder says

    And it looks great!

In NYC the parks were filled with benches! And all the moms (nannies) sit on the benches and the kids just play. There are also all these communal toys. It was park paradise.

I hate the park too & thought those days were looooong gone & then I go & have another baby!
I missed the sport gene. I spend every weekend during winter on the side of the footy field managing a team & watching the two biggest play but ask me to kick or hit a ball, run anywhere or do anything remotely sporty & I’m out. I don’t even try any more! My boys know I’m shit, my husband knows I’m shit & I know im shit so why embarrass us all?!

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Yes…I missed that gene too. I was a very average netball player until I got a job. That was much better, and something I was good at!

  6. Alison von Bibra says

Painting! “Painting is for school” is a common saying here.

  7. I don’t like grown up craft – something weird about adults doing what I perceive as “cutting and pasting”. But I do love a kid craft that they can manage themselves!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

I agree! I’ve always found adult craft – scrapbooking especially the case. Whatever makes you happy I suppose…worse things you could do!

  8. Lisa Mckenzie says

I used to love doing craft with them ,hated the park and hated play doh but the craft thing well I was good at that! I have sewn, knitted, done folk art and everything else in between and just started to learn to crochet so you probably hate me Beth.Put the girls outside with some paper and paints and old clothes or a paintbrush with water and let them paint the bricks or the fence no mess and no fuss and they love it.

I’m with you on this one! I missed out on the craft gene too! But I do like parks because parks also mean ‘the cafe’ and I don’t mind having a work out, pushing kids on the swings, lifting kids onto monkey bars (my arms are looking quite shapely these days!) and there is always someone I know in the park so always a good chance to have a catch up. And, the big AND, little fella always falls asleep after a trip to the park. Insert old fashioned smiley.
