Miscellaneous 14

It looks a little like this outside this morning:

But luckily it looks like this inside:

Ideal Sunday morning conditions. IDEAL. I plan on doing nothing much all day. Maybe drink some coffee. Sit on the lounge and read Daily Mail, you know, things like that.

It’s one week until the ball. And it makes me feel a little woozy and anxious, just thinking about all the things I have to get done this week. I’m trying to think of it as organising a dinner party, just for 130 people. That sounds about right doesn’t it? This time next week it will all be over….

Speaking of dinner parties, have I mentioned anything about Mrs Woog’s 40th that I am hosting down here later this month? I am throwing a 1973 dinner party for her and some friends just like in the latest issue of BEVERLEY (did you like what I did there?). Should be a great weekend! Once that is done, well then I can relax for a little while. And by relax, of course I mean collapse into some kind of coma.

The news.com.au article on How to fold a fitted sheet must be back up online. I had two emails overnight from people telling me how revolting I am for even considering folding sheets on the ground. Obviously they don’t know the state of my floors. And don’t have much to do on a Saturday night. We are strange creatures aren’t we? Floor folding and all.

Yesterday Rob and I went to wonderful panel discussion on the Life and Work of Adam Cullen at a local gallery. It was a pretty special afternoon, hearing about an artist that I have loved and admired and hear from his friends, family and colleagues about his work. It was extra special to meet his Dad and hear him talk so openly about his son, his quirks and talent. Last night I had terrible nightmares though…about ghosts and demons including distinctly feeling someone tapping on the back of my neck as I ran through an empty house trying to turn on light switches. I’m sure it was Harper trying to wake me at the time, but it felt like it just might have been someone else too. It’s good to feel stuff from art don’t you think? Even if it confronts you, scares you even. Or moves you to tears with its beauty. That’s what I love about art.

Wish me luck this week good people of the internet. I’ve got some things to do. But first on the list is a date with that couch, and that fire. Enjoy your Sunday x

Have you been gifted with a rainy Sunday morning round your parts?
Had any nightmares lately? Terrifying aren’t they?
Read the latest issue of BEVERLEY?

  1. Revolting? It’s not as if you’re heading out to a mud pit to fold them. I have enjoyed some foul nightmares in my time but not last night, last night I dreamed about The Voice. I wasn’t in the competition, and nothing weird happened, it was just like watching TV. I think it was the most boring dream I’ve ever had. And good luck for this week! From all the good people of the Internet.

  2. Beth I saw the sheet video and then the carving a roast chicken and I laughed so hard at your joke of carving it on the floor. It had been a shit day and you made me laugh.
What a lucky duck Mrs Woog is to have you host her 40th. You are a beautiful friend.
I’m off for a coffee and papers to. Enjoy your day.

Thanks Margie! I need to make another video for them today as well. Whatever the subject there is always controversy!

  3. Hi Beth. I recently signed up to your blog BECAUSE OF the sheet-folding thing. I remembered a friend had posted it on FB a while ago but I hadn’t had the time to watch it at the time, so I went a-Googling for it and found your blog. WHICH. I. LOVE. Just wanted to let you know. I also just read all about Adam Cullen who I didn’t know anything about until your most recent post. So thanks. Sounds like those “revolting” people belong in Adam’s “Loserville”. Happy Sunday!

Well there you go! Thanks…happy folding! Adam Cullen was an amazing Australian artist…one of the best we will see in our lifetimes. Enjoy the exploring 🙂

  4. I thought you were going to write about how revolting you are for actually folding fitted sheets full stop! I’d love a bit of a fire and a coffee, but instead, I’m doing an 81km round trip twice in this revolting weather to drive my daughter to a birthday party. The things we do for our kids.

  5. Gayel @ Modern Mummy Mayhem says

Wee bit jealous of that weather you have there this morning. How cozy! I am far too compelled to get dressed and do a chore with our sunshine. I really do think that you need a disclaimer on your sheet folding post. One that reads like. NB. My floors are SO CLEAN I would be happy to eat my tea and toast off them anfter folding my sheets, however if yours aren’t maybe you just need to just roll the bloody sheet up in your arms, open the linen cupboard door and throw. Then go lean your floor! Goodluck for next weekend .. I am sure it will be amazing.

  6. Adam Cullen was a beautiful soul but he was playing with some dark energies. Protect yourself.

Mrs Woog is of a very good vintage, like myself. and the Opera House. The ball will be fine, Beth, it really will. Those who are there have some idea of the effort that goes in, appreciate that it’s a fundraiser and won’t notice any of the missing/imperfect/unfinished things. Truly. They’ll love it. Loving the rain today. Hope it’s dry for Sunday night’s fireworks next weekend though.

  8. It’s not even 6am in my world yet but I’m up and about to make breakfast, lunches and get the kids to school. Ahhh life in the middle east. Only 3 more weeks until summer holidays and the return to relaxing Sundays. Enjoy yours!

  9. Folding sheets on the floor is so not revolting. You know what is revolting? I have just washed our sheets because it is a beautiful windy day here. It is SO windy though that they have come off the line three times already and dragged in the mud! So now, I am off to wash them again and I am going to secure those buggers with so many pegs this time. Good luck for your busy week.
    Sue

  10. Brilliant idea! The Life in Style show is on first week of August and you could surely get tickets (I happen to know someone who’ll give you some hehe) and stay at The Cullen while you’re there! I did it last year with my Mum who’s an ex-art teacher and loves design and all things arty. It was brilliant. I could have just walked around the hotel all weekend looking at the beautiful paintings. Oh and the service at the hotel was the best I’ve ever had. Have you booked yet? What are you waiting for??

  11. Carly Findlay says

Oh you are busy Beth! I’ve had a relaxing weekend – immersing myself in words, sleep, the Great Gatsby and the Emerging Writers Festival. Loving life!
Have you decided on hiring a dress? A friend of mine is a WAG – an actual footballers wife!! – and she swears by hiring dresses.

    • BabyMacBlogBeth says

Awesome! I didn’t get organised in any way for hiring or buying..it’s going to be a search through what I’ve got and making do! x

  12. MotherDownUnder says

Those two parties both sound like so much fun!
I can’t wait to read all about the wrap up.
I hope you had a wonderful day and enjoyed doing nothing!

  13. ahoy.jenni says

Good luck with the ball. Do show us lots of pics please!!
I realised lately that I am way too comfortable in soft pants, please show us how people dress up these days.
We woke up to a sunny Sunday morning, having sent the rain up your way. One rainy day was enough thanks (I am so not a farmer)
And I will get Beverley on my ipad, as soon as I can get the ipad from my daughter (she is a peppa pig addict)
    Have a lovely week 🙂

  14. This issue of Beverley – FAAAAABBBB! Thank you!

  15. Lisa Mckenzie says

I hate nightmares they are scary and usually stupid.I wish you all the luck in the world for the ball i’m sure it will be wonderful you are a great organiser and that is lovely you having Mrs Woogs 40th at your place and a 1973 theme cool,I can imagine all the cool food and the flares and poncho’s it will be an awesome party, and you are so sweet for doing it for her.

  16. I’m just gobsmacked that people are so weird about that. I once wrote about doing poos in public toilets and got nothing but positive feedback. Bizarre.
