Attempting to blog on my phone

All day Saturday when I was in hospital with by Brother in law I was feeling pretty awful. Actually, very sick. I sucked it up, got on with it and pushed it aside. But there was in undeniable ache in my stomach and the top right hand side of my abdomen. Of course while I was sitting around I googled “upper right quadrant stomach pain” because I was in a hospital and words like “quadrant” came naturally to me. Mum and I diagnosed me with fall bladder issues which have symptoms similar to heartburn & indigestion. I planned to see my GP Monday morning. Sunday afternoon I had showered, done my makeup and was just getting ready to catch up with some friends when I was literally floored with pain. Similar to the attacks ive had for the past 6 months or so, but about a gazillion times worse. Which was saying something. Rob was about to call the ambulance, but of course I thought I could drive myself…he convinced me to let HIM drive, so he did. After I was triaged the nurse said to me “darl, you’ve got gallstones. Sounds like you just passed one.” I could have cried with relief. FINALLY. An answer. I have been asking my GP this for MONTHS. the Dr confirmed this, gave me some morphine, and admitted me to the Private Hospital next door. IV antibiotics, drip, and an ultrasound ordered. Surgery is tomorrow, that sucker will be GONE. And hopefully, I will be pain free. I cannot wait. No having to give up bread. I CAN have pizza in New York. I will be fine. It’s a good result even though it means surgery and recovery. Even though our plans for a holiday in Melbourne thus Sunday will be cancelled. And no Blogopolis for me either. It’s a good result right? So, tomorrow at about 1pm send mr some good vibes. I’ve never had an op before, never been under, and I’ll admit, I’m quite scared! Pizza and New York in less than a month are the light at the end of my tunnel.

  4. I really hope you recover well from the op, I had my Gall ladder out when I was 26, and had a 9 month old baby. It may have been keyhole surgery, but it is still major surgery. You will be out of action for quite a few weeks and very sore. Just remember to take it easy and don’t do anything strenuous. I was out of action for 6 weeks after mine. I had to stop breastfeeding as I just couldn’t sit or lie comfortably while trying to feed. So remember, rest up and don’t do anything at all for at least 2 weeks so you have the best chance of recovery πŸ™‚

  5. Wishing you the best of luck Beth! Glad you finally have an answer and a solution πŸ™‚

  6. Love getting an answer, even if it means surgery and a slight change of plans. Imagine if you had found out in a few weeks!

  7. Good luck Beth hope the op goes well and you can put this whole thing behind you. Sorry I won’t get to meet you on Saturday, but there is always next year! Cheers xxT

  8. Sending good wishes your way for tomorrow- you’ll be fine, the waiting for surgery really is the worst part! Bet you’re glad it’s all happening now & you’re missing out on Melbourne instead of New York! I had an op about 3 months ago, and while recovery sucked I was so glad it was over & done with so I didn’t have to worry about anymore!

  9. Sending Get Well Wishes Beth and Fingers Crossed for a smooth Op and recovery!
Hubby had his Gallbladder out when my second baby was 6 weeks old, key hole surgery and was back to work within a week. I still to this day curse the nurse that told him gallstones were worse than labour, because he had 5 attacks of gallstones he thinks he’s one up on me who only went through labour 4 times!!

  10. I don’t think you will need luck Beth – I think they will look after you beautifully and you will be a new woman after this.

    Take care and best wishes.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and a fantastic future full of bread and pizza. xx

  12. All the very best! You will be fine – you’re a strong cookie!

  13. Good Luck Beth, Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery!

  14. Good luck! I have no doubt you’ll come through like a trooper and you’ll be eating pizza in New York before you know it! πŸ™‚

You will be fine and thank goodness it all happened now.
Best best bestest wishes, if you lived locally I would nurse you better myself (its my profession, nothing weird)

  16. So glad that you finally have an answer! And that your problem will be solved! Good luck tomorrow!

  17. I’m sure all will go well and you can look forward to many more carb-devouring days in the future! Try and rest while you can, sorry I won’t get the chance to say ‘hey’ at Blogopolis, but there’ll hopefully be a next time! I’m smiling thinking of you eating pizza without a worry in NYC! x

  18. I got mine out just over a month ago and i too was very scared. Never had an op before. Been under a few times and knew I always had adverse reactions. So I was terrified. My the op went smoothly, quickly and easy. The pain wasnt as bad as I had prepared for and recovery was pretty quick. Sore for about a week, a little less, and then I was brand new. You will be a new woman afterwards. My energy levels have risen and I can eat and drink anything without being up all night in unimaginable pain. I reckon my gall bladder attacks were worse than child labour. Seriously.

Good luck tomorrow and with your recovery. You will be fine and so much happier without that stinkin thing!

  19. All the best for a speedy recovery Beth.

  20. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow! Think how great it will be not to have that pain anymore. Xx

  21. Goodluck Beth, I was thinking that life without bread was going to be tough!

I had mine out last year and it was a snap compared to a c-section. Haven’t had any problems since. Good luck to you, the pain is awful.

  23. Good luck Beth – I’m sure it will all go well and you will be in tip top shape for NYC Fx

  24. It all seems so obvious now! Gall stones! I’m a sucker for a good diagnosis… All the very VERY best for your op – you’ll be fantastico πŸ˜‰

  25. QUANDRANT.

Hon, this is awesome, awesome news. Seriously, they can fix it! You can eat bread! And I promise you, going under in a general anaesthetic is bloody unreal. It’s the ultimate …. I often joke that a general is my drug of choice. Bad, overwhelming feelings? BAM. You’re gone.

    Michael Jackson was onto something.

Thinking of you tomoz at 1. XXXX

    • Agreed. Although I hate anything medical after having keyhole surgery up my nose into my head, being knocked out for three hours was like a ten hour sleep. Was my favorite part πŸ˜‰ you’ll be fabulous. Rest up and enjoy NY for the rest of us.

  26. All the best Beth, hope the anxious before-surgery time flies and you are quickly at the pain-free after.

  27. Had mine out years ago and discovered I had lots of little stones. I hadn’t had kids at the time and discribed the pain as like being in labour. Scoff they did, how the hell would I know? they asked. I didn’t, but I was right, it hurts like a bastard and leaves you literally floored.
Good luck, you’ll be right in a few weeks x.

  28. Honestly Beth, I’m annoyed at myself for not suggesting it might be Gallstones when you first brought up your symptoms. I had a bad attack a few months ago following an overdose of Pork Crackling and ultrasound confirmed a Gallstone. Your symptoms sounded so similar to mine but I didn’t want to do the whole backseat driver diagnosis on you and you said you had been to the GP. Sorry! Apparently mine is so big it will not fit down any ducts and so won’t get stuck so they are doing the wait and see thing. I’m off Pork Crackling πŸ™ Not worth the risk. At least you’ll be able to eat as normal after tomorrow πŸ˜€ All the best for the op! Keyhole surgery, should be right in a couple of days xx

Hi Beth – good luck tomorrow! I had my gallbladder removed when I was 26, and after the first 24 post-op hours (bad spew reaction to the anaestetic – runs in my family!), I was a new woman! When you’ve been experiencing that kind of pain – recovery is a breeze in comparison, and I was back to work after a week. Sending good operation vibes your way. Catherine XO

  30. Sending love xx

Good luck for the op Beth. The sleep you are about to have is the BEST ever!! Enjoy xx

  32. Holy cow girl. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Here’s to a speedy recovery x

  33. Hi Beth, You’re not alone sister! I had my gall bladder out 6 weeks after having my daughter. Hurt to buggery and took me 5 visits to docs and obs saying it felt like labour but too high, before they finally tested for gall stones. This, even though it can be brought on by pregnancy (extra oestrogen apparently) and it really seemed obvious after diagnosis. Fun times.
Anyway, had the surgery, stressed about breastfeeding (managed fine) and now feel 100%. Felt good after about a week/10 days. Nothing I can’t eat (KFC is a little dodgy) and so happy it is behind me now. You’ll be great & fine and dandy for NYC.

I am glad that you have an answer and that there is a possibility to take away your pain, although it means surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery! Always think of the great painfree time that you will have in New York!

    Fine

  35. Get better soon. You’ve got things to do, places to go, people to see!

  36. You’ll be fine Beth. Just good you found out now!! Take care.

  37. Tomorrow will be ace, the day after a little better and so on until you find yourself in New York and your head explodes with awesomeness!!

  38. Wishing you good dreams while your under and a speedy recovery xo

  39. Yep, you’ll be fine, I have also had mine out and it is brilliant to be pain free afterwards. Take care and try and enjoy the rest.

  40. I’ve had my gall bladder out and it was my first operation too, so I get the nerves. It is very quick and very straight forward and you’ll be back on your feet pretty quick. It is such a relief to be pain free though and to have more of the menu open to you again!
    Take care.
    xo

  41. Well your silver lining here is that this has happened before you’ve gone o/s. Small mercies! Hope it all goes well and wishing both you and your brother-in-law a speedy recovery. Take care Beth x

  42. Ha! I remember going in to have my gall bladder out & they ask “so you know what procedure your having?’& I reply “liposuction on my stomach right?”. They all laugh like they hadn’t heard that one before but secrectly I was hoping the doctor would take one look at my jelly belly & feel some pity for me & do some lipo….
You’ll be good as! in a week or so hun, I promise. Been there, done that & I KNOW you’ll feel soooooooo much better real soon xx

    • Hahaha Reannon. I thought the same thing when the operated in my head (keyhole surgery up my nose, no less). Couldn’t they at least have given me a nose job while they were at it?

  43. Oh poor lady, but thank heavens for the revelation. It’s a bummer you had to suffer this long with it, though you’ll be back on top of the world once the surgery is done and dusted. AND you can eat bread! Now THAT is a positive worth taking. Big hugs xoxo

  44. I know how you feel. Last year I needed to have emergency surgery and I was soooo scared. But everything was fine. These people know what they’re doing cause they do it a million times a day. The only advice that I can give is rest and don’t stress about the blog – we’ll still be here when you get back. Take it easy and take care of yourself. Jay xo

  45. Oh you poor love, good luck tomorrow it will go just perfectly and you can live it up New York style xo

So glad you’ve finally found out what is going on. Yay to having it sorted before NY!! You’ll be heading in just about now so very best wishes.

    Anth

  47. No more pain and no more niggling questions over what was wrong. You’ll be pretty groggy for a while after the op and a bit sore but it’ll all be worth it! I think we all would’ve been just as depressed as you if we didn’t get to read about what you & Mrs Woog get up to in NYC πŸ™‚

  48. Oh sweetie I feel your pain, I know exactly how that feels the ‘dropping you to the floor’ pain of a gall bladder attack, worse than childbirth by a thousand times. Sorry I have visited for a while and then find all this happening to you and your fam. So glad you are home now and on the mend. Much love and hugs from Perth. xxxx
