Hairstyles, I’ve had a few

Every now and then (read every few months) I get an itching for a new hairstyle. I have never understood people that have had the same hairstyles for years and years and years – how boring! I mean, it grows back – why are people so scared to change their hair? Not me – no, I am forever changing my hair. The colour, the style, almost everything about it. I changed hair stylists when I moved down here – which was probably a good thing as my lesbian Newtown hairdresser had taken things a bit too far with a shaver and a bad colour job the last time I saw her. My new man down here is amazing. And expensive. But amazing. And he has given me my first ever platinum do which I fear (much to my hair’s dismay) that I may want to keep forever.

Anyway. I am seeing him again this morning and am itching for a new do. Again. I know – who’s boring now? I still am undecided about just what kind of do I want to get and I won’t really know until we have a chat he does whatever he thinks he should do – that’s another thing – I always let the hairdresser do what they want to do. Which may or may not work in my favour.  So, in the meantime I have been trawling the archives for inspiration and here are just a few of the do’s I have sported over the past 7 years or more…

: My wedding do – short, textured foiled bob. I did love this do – so easy to maintain and I even did my own hair on the big day. Win!

: My pregnant do – same cut except with a wee fringe

: First newborn do – grown out version of above with fringe grown out. This is probably the longest my hair ever gets to before I declare it too long and ready for a cut!

: Back to work dealing with a toddler do – this was my first ever undercut and I LOVED it. It was also like a cascaded come-what-may do where is was shorter on one side and longer on the other. This is what happens when you let hairdressers do what they want (much to my mothers dismay) but it rocked. I still stand by that – it rocked. And made me feel a little less dowdy Mum bob.

: Slightly shorter version of above do – with some darker foils too. I do love a pixie cut.

: With an undercut. I think Rob’s family thought I was bonkers when I got this one done.

: But it eventually grew out

: The final lesbian Newtown hairdresser cut – this one took things a little too far. The colour was off, the cut waaaay too short and I knew that my small country town wouldn’t be able to cope with hairstyles like this one.

: Platinum bob do – my current look and one I have been growing out since the last bad lesbian cut of August 2011 (yes it has taken that long).  But now this is all long and I feel like it’s dragging me down – but the colour – how I love the colour!

I can’t wait to show you whatever we come up with tomorrow. Because whatever we decide one thing I know to be true is – it will grow back.

  1. There really is nothing like a new ‘do’ to give you a lift.
Can’t wait to see what you choose Beth.
    Loving the Pixie btw,

    xx F

  2. i LOVE pic 5 – i LOVE pixie cuts, just don’t have the right shaped face to pull one off myself.

i also love how your hair looked when you got married.

but then i love your current hairstyle as well – when you showed some of the professional photo’s you had taken recently, i remember thinking “i love her hair!”.

hmm i don’t appear to be much help do i? i am like you though – i change my hairstyle and/or at least colour quite regularly – like most things, i get bored and like to mix things up and yup you’re right, it WILL grow back!

can’t wait to see what you decide to do today with your hair 🙂

    ~x~

  3. so lucky – you look great in so many different ‘do’s’.
can’t wait to see the new one.
    have fun!!
    xox

  4. my lady, you are a braver girl than I!… you look ah-may-zing in your wedding shot, but whether that’s the hair or the fact that you are marrying your true love I don’t know {probably it’s both}… can’t wait to see what cut you get x

  5. Beth, you are hilarious! You remind me of my Mum who has an almost masochistic relationship with her hairdresser! I love the platinum bob… very retro!

    Ang x

  6. this post made me smile alot! brought back many hair memories. i will never forget being in my early teens. bad perm and then mum thought ‘lets cut it short then’. it was marilyn monroe gone really really bad. even a guy at school made a comment & laughed. pfft…it grew back and i moved on. ps: loving the pixie cut and that blonde colour! lovely!

  7. You totally rock the lesbian pixie cut. I can’t wait to see what you come home with.

  8. Love love love Pic 5. That is a really good do.

  9. God, they all look good on you. Wish I had that sort of courage. xxx

  10. I think you have the right shaped face..with that cute little chin..to be able to wear any kind of short pixie-ish hair cut!

  11. Love Love Love the undercut!! And the platinum! I wish I was as brave as you!

  12. You know I love and want all your haircuts and colour… and I even took your wedding photo into the hairdresser (apparently I don’t have the same hair as you so it turned out nothing like your style that I wanted DAMN you Perth hairdressers !) can’t wait for the next ‘do darls’ so I can’t dream of that one on me ! xo

  13. I’m so like you. Since 15 I’ve had every hair colour/shade under the sun. I’ve never been one to agonise over changing my hair.

The cut on the other hand seems to morph into the same cut no matter how I try to change it. It’s just longer or shorter. Last time I went to the hairdresser I said I wanted something exciting and came out with a bob. I had really short hair once and it was a disaster, did not suit me at all.

Can’t wait to see the new do. x

  15. You make me laugh Beth … I cant wait to see your new do. I love the undercut (pic number 5) and with your smokin hot blonde colour … one sexy mumma!!

  16. go pixie. do it.

  17. I wish I was brave enough to cut! I’m one of those “same hairstyle since…forever” types. I tried the Gwynnie Sliding Doors cut, it didn’t work. So now I have kept it long for about 15 years. The fringe varies, sometimes straight down, sometimes to the side. Boring, huh?!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  19. You look amazing with every.single hair style!

As for my do? Boring brown. Past the shoulders. Parted in the middle. Hasn’t been cut in 8 months. Hasn’t been dyed in 2 years.

All going to change this month!

I’m doing something big. I don’t know what! Like you, I’m letting the hairdresser decide.

Good luck! Can’t wait to see the end result.

P.S I LOVE love love your blog. Love the way you write. And love that I (actually) laugh out loud with most of your reads, as opposed to just ‘lol’ing’. Thankyou 🙂

  20. Man, you’ve got great hair. Except for the Newtownian love-in happening , I like them all.

I actually like the sharp bob you’re rocking right now. I’d keep it much the same, maybe a bit shorter. But who knows, right?! Mind you, you’re in a different world now, Beth. Bet you those Southern Highlanders will urge you to grow it out to a neat little just-above-the-shoulders blonde-highlighted bob. Oh yes, Bob and you, sitting in a tree… x

Your post has made me think… I am one of those people who never change their hair styles! Sure a few foils here and there in the summer but other than that nothing. Nothing. In going on a good 15 years! Dead straight hair is just no fun. Think I live close to that Newtown hairdresser …. maybe I should take a walk down the street to the wild side?

    Katie (Newtown)

  22. Hilarious, last year i sported a few boy band dos as my hair dresser basically kept cutting my hair like his (Korean boy in his 20s, yeah, that’s me!!) Love Posie

  23. I love the pixie cut the best! You look fabulous with short hair. My hairdresser won’t let me colour my hair (what hairdresser does THAT?), but I’ve been blonde (not a good idea), light brown dark brown, bright red, auburn… you name it. And it’s been long and short. Even permed (ew).

Gosh, I’m so inspired, I might even pull out some pictures and post about it.

Thanks for the hair journey. So much fun! And yes, it does grow out. (And I never go back to hairdressers who ask me how I want my hair. That’s THEIR job!)

  24. As I always say, it’s because you have such a gorgeous face, you can do any style lady.
I on the other hand, can not… hence why I am one of those boring people who NEVER change their hair. I even know it’s boring, but I just can’t own any other style xo

  25. I have a hair cut at the moment cross between dowdy mum and lesbian.

    Not cool.

I am probably going to take a pic of yours for inspiration to get this shyt fixed up. Is this ok?
    x

  26. Your hair looks great – I have a hairdressing appoitment for Friday and can’t wait to go – my hair is in desperate need of a cut. I’d been thinking about what to do, I don’t always have a ‘change’, but was thinking I might when I came across this post… you have me convinced, thanks x

  27. you have selected Different Hairstyles in Different situation! i really Like this way!

  28. GOT CHA!!!

  29. Ahh, I have a bad undercut and a bad colour (I wanted blond but got orange three times in a row!) and coloured it mousy brown the other day bymyself!! I look horrid! How to fix a bad undercut that I desperatley want to grow out!
    PS> I love the bob!
