One thing: Passport applications

It’s been some time since I’ve got my #onething done. But this week, this magical 6 week mark where the fog slowly starts to lift and you feel at least 5% of the person you used to be before you had a baby, well I managed to get something done! Something, that is, besides having a shower and boiling the kettle for the 45th time in one day.

For those of you not playing along, #onething is where I do just ONE THING from my to-do list, but not your every day to-do list. Oh no, this is the list of non essential items that sort of kind of need to get done but it’s no biggie if they don’t get done until next week, or next month, or um, next year. Those things. Just one. Every week.

Last week I got around to working out the final details of our overseas trip to Italy in September. There was one other thing that I had to do for this trip…and that was the dreaded passports. And not just for our newest member of the family, oh no! I had to tackle a renewal for Rob and Harper. You see I could have done theirs way before now (both expired last year) but in true #onething form, they kept getting moved off the to-do list every week until a year later.

Do you know the brain power expended doing this? And this was just the first bit. First I did them online, then I had to get the photos taken (including holding up a 5 week old without any of me showing trying to get her head upright) then make an interview, THEN lodge them. Honestly, it’s almost broken my spirit this week. But! They are done. Lodged and paid for and hopefully here in another few weeks and at least 10 years before we have to do it again for Rob and 4 for Mags and Harps. Phew.

What was your one thing this week?
Go choose something, right now, just have a look around and there will be something waiting…

  1. Well done you! Kids passports are so tough – trying to get my kids to have a photo taken without smiling at the camera was mission impossible!
Maggie’s passport is the cutest thing I’ve seen this week. xx

  2. Hot tip for baby passport photos – lie them down on a white sheet. It’s what our post office does and it makes life so much easier. I have 3 passport applications that have been sitting on my desk for 8 months. Must get around to it!

  3. that was me a few weeks ago. After having to go back and get one child photo re-done because it wasn’t right, it finally got done. passports are ready and we are off to fiji tomorrow week! yaaaay!

  4. I love the idea of One Thing to do. I tried making a list of the three most important tasks for the day but everyday it was dishes, laundry and dinner!!

  5. I do know that about passport applications beth! … just doing an adult’s passport is hard enough these days, especially if expired!
my friend has had all sorts of trouble and hold ups! so it is good you are onto it now!
that obviously is harper as a baby and maggie looks just like her! … amazing! soo cute!
one job! … well! iv’e got one million! … i’ll start whittling I promise!
    love m:)X

  6. How cute is Harper! I was married on the 26th March four years ago and still haven’t updated my passport to my married name. Two kids in between there and now- that is my excuse!

  7. Omg, Harper’s baby passport pic is the cutest thing I have ever seen!

    • I know…look at that little head! So funny travelling with her last year and still using this pic of when she was 5 months old!

  8. Oh baby Harper well done Beth!!

  9. You’ve reminded me that my middle child’s is about to run out! Ugh. Just a mission of a job, with a newborn in tow makes it even more commendable. Here’s to making it through the 6-week mark! She is divine.

  10. That is the cutest passport picture ever!

  11. There is still 12 months before our 12 year olds passport expires but I am already filled with dread at the performance it is likely to be. It is a very special kind of torture trying to organise a passport for a foster child. I have already emailed our caseworker so he has time to prepare himself……….& to book in the stress leave he will undoubtedly need by the time he has finished 🙂

  12. Also worth remembering that some countries won’t let you in if your passport only has 3-6 months left on it or a certain number of pages left in it. I know people who learnt this the hard way when they tried to board a flight.

  13. So cute! A baybee passport!
