Hayman Island

The last day of the conference was spent at the beautiful Hayman Island which has long been on my ‘one day if I’m lucky I’ll get there’ travel destinations. I’ve spent many a moment drooling over photos of this resort online and through other people’s photos but had heard that over the past few years that it was getting a little “tired” as many resorts do after many years.

About 2 years ago there was a very large injection of cash into the gardens and rooms and building some new beach pavilions with their own plunge pools – a general ‘freshening up’ of the old girl. The gardens are BEAUTIFUL and very well looked after. The interiors were  fabulous. The staff were so friendly. The place looked fresh and clean and everything I hoped it would be and was ranked right up there with some of the other beautiful places I’ve had the luck and pleasure of staying in overseas over the past few years. Our last dinner was the Chef’s Table in the bowels of the kitchen of the resort – an 8 course degustation with matching wines and it was quite simply amazing.

I will be back with Rob and the girls for a few days if we can. For sure. There are lounge chairs by the pool that are calling my name. Beachside bars begging for me to have a cocktail at. Water for me to swim in. Yes, I need to get back here.

The past 4 days were quite amazing. I kept pinching myself, over and over again. Is this really happening? How on EARTH did I get here? I’m very grateful to Lorraine and her hard working staff for arranging an amazing conference for us all and for Tourism Queensland & The Cruise Whitsundays crew for showing the destination in all it’s glory. I will say that when I think of tropical holidays my mind does tend to wander to overseas places like Fiji or Thailand or Bali, but there is so much, right here on our doorstop that is stunning and just 2 hours away, and I know that I’ll be back in the not too distant future.

Have you been to the Whitsundays before?

  1. I’ve been several times, to Hamilton and Hayman.

I got married on Hayman nearly 6 years ago and it was truly devine. We had 50 guests, intimate number and everyone was treated like a star.

We are going to Hamilton and Hayman in November for our annual family holiday. I cannot wait to show my kids the chapel where I was married.

Hamilton is fantastic for children too, with so many activities and various accommodation types too.

Noosa is my favourite place on the mainland of QLD to visit. But we have a house there so I’m biased 😉

Glad you enjoyed yourself. It’s a pretty special place in the world, isn’t it.

    xx

    • It sure is Sammy! I kept thinking of you when we were there – saw 2 weddings going on! I’ll have to check out Hamilton too. And of course Qualia! Just voted best resort in the WORLD. Sheesh. I’ve only been to Noosa once before so have to head back there too. Queensland has it all!

      • Qualia is amazing. Went there for my babymoon when I was PG with Ted. It was brilliant. No children under the age of 16, so it’s adults only and very quiet. My Mum had her 60th Birthday party there 2 years ago and they took over most of the resort, said it was insanely amazing.

Noosa is FAB for kids. Of all ages too. Have been going there since I was 18 and it never gets old.

QLD is fab and always my go to destination for domestic beach holidays. Love Port Douglas and Cairns too but fear the 3 hr flight with my 3 kids is a little too much to handle right now 😉

  2. We honeymooned on Hamilton and Long Island and stayed a night on Airlie. Would love to go back.

  3. I went to Hayman in 2001 to write a travel story and it was wonderful.

It looks like you guys had an amazing time!

Next on my bucket list? Sri Lanka and Jordan. Hopefully sometime in the next 12 months.

    Steph 🙂

  5. I was there also BMac, actually in pool access 147-148 (next one in your pic), celebrating 10 year wedd anni and saw you photographing. Feeling stalked much? 🙂 Have to say the beds and pillows were bloody uncomfy (I literally used the word “tired”), but staff so fab, so asked for a feather pillow! Hooray! Loved the comp wine from them too, room upgrade and seaplane upgrade too. Helps to balance out the expensive menus whilst a captive diner.
