Date Loaf
4 cups of pitted dates {chopped}
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups boiling water
120 grams butter
3 and a half cups self raising flour
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
2 teaspoons baking powder
This makes 2 loaves (one to eat, one to freeze and or, eat)
: Chop the dates into smallish sizes. I ended up using a whole 500gm packet.

: Add dates, butter {cut into small squares} sugar into a large mixing bowl
: Pour in boiling water & vanilla essence and mix until butter melted and all combined
: Add in the sifted flour and baking powder
: Mix until combined
: Pour into lined loaf tins. Somehow I owned 2(!) of these tins even though I have never made a loaf anything before!
: Throw into 180 degree oven for 30 minutes
: Have with tea {it's OK Rob, it's just hot water that she's having}
: And with lashings of butter
: And with good company - of course!

The most civilised child in history, drinking a cup of lady grey from a porcelain mug. tremendous.

Fabulous on all counts!
ReplyDeleteI can attest that the date loaf was delish (and moist, very moist). And how excited was I to be sitting in "the chair"? Did it embarrass you a little when I kept raving on about feeling like I was on a movie set? I've just been immersed in your gorgeous house completely via your blog and then... there I was! Bit giddy with it all.
ReplyDeleteThank you both for a lovely morning, such a fabulicious start to my trucking adventure. x
PS - how could I have forgotten to ask "does my butt look big in this chair"????
Fucking bitches! Where was my invite.... xx

ReplyDeleteI want a invite! x
ReplyDeleteHave been saving my pennies for one of Naughty Shorts' tea dresses - and when I finally do I think I will be whipping up some date loaf and a pot of tea to celebrate in style. Glad you 2 got to meet. Love Maxabellas comment re movie set and sitting in THE CHAIR (btw I love that chair). And Mrs Woog - your comment is a classic. Babymac I think you need to start a series. Like the old Salon days. You can have people over to tea and entertain and then tell us all about it on your blog. PS Love the Bev posts where you get in touch with your inner-CWAness.
ReplyDeleteGo Beth!
